My first experience in a ryokan and it was through the roof. Perfect service, awesome dinner and breakfast, clean and spacious room and an amazing onsen. The price is quite high but still lower than some other high-class ryokans. It was totally worth the price!

I stayed at Iwaso on Miyajima, and it was truly special. The location itself is magnificent: the ryokan is conveniently located near the main attractions of the island, yet slightly off the beaten track, maintaining a cozy and tranquil atmosphere. The room was quiet and very cozy. Tea is served upon check-in, which immediately sets the mood, and by the time you leave for dinner, the staff is preparing your futon. A special treat is the balcony overlooking the forest. The same beautiful forest view opens up during dinner, breakfast, and even from the onsen. You can sometimes spot deer wandering among the trees, and in the evening, the forest is beautifully illuminated, creating a truly magical atmosphere in the onsen. Dinner was simply amazing. I especially remember the fried oysters, the superb bouillabaisse, the fresh sashimi, and the varied appetizers—everything was delicious and truly surprising. I'd especially like to highlight the beautiful presentation and tableware, which made the dinner even more memorable. I also highly recommend not missing out on the sake tasting set. Breakfast was also a good experience—delicious, pleasant, and a great way to unwind before exploring the island. The ryokan offers a shuttle to the ferry station, which can be convenient for guests with luggage. I didn't use it because I didn't have any suitcases and it was a short walk, but the service itself is very helpful.

There is a minibus at the ferry. The hotel is right at the entrance of Hongye Valley Park. There is a stream garden at the door. Next door is the free bus to the park cable car. It takes only 3 minutes to walk to Itsukushima Taisha Shrine. It is very suitable for elderly and children to stay. The hotel has a long history, and the walls are covered with photos of celebrities. You can also encounter deer when taking a hot spring bath. The staff is enthusiastic and English is OK. Most of the guests are foreigners and elderly people. Don't worry about staying there~ Note that you can't wear a yukata to Itsukushima Taisha Shrine!
