Like domestic economic hotel conditions, of course the price is cheap. If you can't stand the poor bedding, be cautious. But the location is excellent.

The hotel is in a good location, easy walking distance to all the sights and it’s very close to the iconic Hotel National de Cuba, which is a must see! The staff are amazing, especially the front of house/reception, the pool staff on the roof deck, and the ground floor bar staff who were all friendly and helpful. The breakfast was a good variety of local and continental options, buffet style with a range of drinks/juices. I used the gym and the pool, was a good experience. Taxi from the airport to hotel and return to the airport cost me £10 sterling each way, but of course the taxi guys do try to charge double that, so negotiate amicably and pay a fair price! I had a slightly scary experience on my final night at the hotel, when a strange man entered my room at 11.30pm! I had to chase him him and report him to reception downstairs. I was told he was the maintenance guy who accidentally went into my room. I was not given an apology by the manager nor offered any resolution, as I wasn’t able to sleep that night due to anxiety etc. Imagine if I had been a less able man, or even a female, I dread to think what could have and would have happened! The matter was reported to Trip.com who apologised but it should have been the hotel manager who spoke with me, and I felt disrespected that they still to date have not bothered to contact me! Overall, the hotel is nice, but it was just my end incident on the final night that messed up my experience.

It so happened that in a short time I stayed at the hotel twice, so I am writing two reviews in one day. In general, the hotel is truly wonderful - everything is well built, beautiful, comfortable and stylish (the hotel has been open since 1929 and, in general, has retained its style with a few exceptions). Initially, they worked on it thoroughly, and the result did not disappoint - truly good things do not lose their class with age, but, on the contrary, acquire additional dignity, like cognac or aged rum). The attitude of the staff - sincere and caring - adds to the sensations (or rather, elevates them to a degree). Met guests here who always stay at this hotel when they come to Havana. Apparently I will be such a person now))

The good stuff...I stayed in a junior suite on the first floor for 3 nights, and it was huge, massive bed, comfy sofas and the balcony was about 25m long. Also had a great view of the bay. It also did all the basics well, the bed was comfy and the air-con worked really well and quietly. So the room was a pleasant place to stay. Contrary to some of the reviews on here I found it to be very clean. However as with many things in Cuba it was old tired and broken. I have sympathy as I don't think they have the money or the equipment to fix it. Here were some of the issues: - I was looking forwards to a jacuzzi bath (bit of luxury at the end of the stay). However no bath plug (which they tried and failed to fix), I bodged one with a bag, but the water was tepid and the jacuzzi didn't work. So no jacuzzi. - The room is on a very busy road/buss stop and there was glass missing from the windows so it was really noisy, like sleeping right by a main road - all night. - Some of the window shutters were broken/missing - Bathroom lights not all working - One of the bedside lights didn't work - Window handle had fallen off - WiFi didn't work the whole stay - No pressure in the shower - The shower fitting was wrong, so the water didn't point at me - The breakfast wasn't great. Buffet with fruit plus eggs (similar to others I had been served in Cuba, but lower quality, there was cereal, but it was not stale, but completely soft, it must have been out/open for ages) - The bar man ripped me off. I had a lemonade. In posh restaurants in Cuba this would be 100-150 CUP (about 1 dollar) and made well with crushed ice etc. I got served what tasted like a lemon squash with ice cubes. Their online menu said 100CUP. The barman said 300 CUP or 5 dollars, and I had to pay with a credit card, and he charged me $3.30. So either the bar is ridiculously expensive (over 3 times the standard price compared with better restaurants) or the barman overcharged me. Anyway overall I quite enjoyed my stay and the only thing that really bothered me was the rip off at the bar. However as I paid over three times more to stay here than I would have done at a Casa I was expecting it to be a little less broken. For example if you pay extra for a jacuzzi, but can't use it then I can't really give a positive review, even if I do understand the difficulties they have.

The location is very good, going to the old town is within a ten minute walk. Returning to the airport, renting a classic car, etc., please ask the grandfather of the hotel travel consultation to help arrange the arrangements, the price is fair. However, the receptionist attitude is very poor and very national. I don't know if it is because Ctrip has booked it, so the first floor of the room is very noisy. The breakfast can only be eaten in the restaurant on the first floor instead of the rooftop restaurant. It feels discriminatory. It’s okay to eat breakfast at around 8:00, and there’s nothing to do at 9 o’clock. The facilities are very old and psychologically expected. The toilets will be rushed from time to time and easily blocked. This season is very cool and there is no quilt, only the old blanket...
