Normally stay at the Lympsham Premier Inn whenever in the area, but they had decided to massively hike their prices for the Jubilee Bank holiday weekend. So we thought we'd give The Grange a try. Positives. Picturesque setting, the 2 ladies on reception/restaurant duty were pleasant and helpful enough, and the food, although not spectacular, was perfectly OK and reasonably priced. The not so positives. I appreciate that for £55 a night you can't expect high end luxury. But the place is in serious need of refurbishment and redecoration. Walls scuffed and grubby/peeling, carpets have seen better days. Our room, which could politely be described as compact, had a quarter inch wide crack running along the entire length of the ceiling and one wall, with a view that was half neglected back garden, half dumping/storage facility. And using the shower/toilet may, unless you are a competent gymnast, be a challenge. Finally, the walls are tracing paper thin. Which means you can hear everything, and I do mean everything in near enough every room on your floor. Including things that most people I imagine would rather not hear given the choice. Although some would probably pay good money to. I'm all for privately run hospitality businesses trying to compete against the big corporate chains. But after this experience, we'll stick to the Premier Inn down the road in future.
