Yufu Homestays

It’s the third time we came to Yufuin. Previously, we stayed in onsen hotels with meals provided. This time we are staying for 2 months in Japan to experience the local life, and Yufuin was our third stop, where we stayed for 6 nights. The service is top notch. The host responded very quickly whenever I had queries, and very clear instructions for free pick-up were given days before check-in. As we stepped in the house, the air- conditioner had already been turned on there were 3 big bottles of water in the fridge which made us feel so welcome. They collected our trash every day and asked us what we needed. The guesthouse is an independent unit full of beautiful Japanese decorations. It was sparkling clean and thoughtfully furnished with everything you need. A first-aid box was provided. We were given 12 sets of clean towels and toilet amenities, including toothbrushes. We have stayed in different apartments before and have never experienced this. More importantly, the kitchen was well equipped with everything—many cutlery items of different sizes and even wine glasses. There were a hot pot and a frying pan, a toaster, rice cooker, coffee machine, and even a dishwasher. You can't imagine there is even a massage chair! The bathroom was designed like an onsen. You can simply add some onsen powder to enjoy a hot bath. You can easily access different attractions on foot. The location is about a 20-minute walk to the nearby supermarkets, 25 minutes to the main shopping streets, and 30 minutes to the JR station. If you drive, it is even easier. For us, we enjoyed walking and seeing the beautiful scenery, so it was not a problem for us even though we didn’t drive. Every day we walked to the supermarkets and bought fresh produce to cook. We had so much fun making different dishes and hot pot. When we asked for a whetstone, the host quickly gave us theirs, and the next day, they bought us a new one. They even gave us sake as a gift. On the day of check-out, the host drove us to the JR station and helped us store our luggage in the visitors’ centre. Next time when we come to Yufuin, we will definitely stay here again. It’s really great value for money.

Very nice and comfortable new house. Comfortabel beds. Hot spring bath with absolute privacy. Choice inside and outside. Beatiful location with views over the rice fields towards the mountains. We would have loved to spend another day there. Unfortunately it was fully booked!

服務：老闆的服務絕對滿分，語言交流順暢，而且車接車送。因為酒店距離中心有15分鐘步行距離，因此拖家帶口，有接送很方便。因為擔心吃飯餐廳緊張，老闆也很熱心提供了預約餐廳服務，異國他鄉很感動。 環境：旅館佈置很漂亮，也很乾凈，客廳旁邊有簡單的廚房，有一晚選擇在本地超市採購，老闆提供餐具鍋碗瓢盆和調料。因此新增了本地人做飯吃的體驗。 雖然是傳統日式木質結構的門，晚上睡覺還是很安靜的。 設施：温泉有2個，每個家庭分時段使用。每天換水。 本來以為公共浴室不方便，其實很方便，很整潔。 第一次寫這麼多的評價，也是第一次定民宿，很感謝老闆為我們一家提供好的服務，老闆是日本人，也通過他了解了很多日本文化。由布院之旅很完美。

Our family trip turned into a wonderful countryside experience. The facilities were a bit old but perfectly functional, clean, and tidy. The fields were quiet due to the autumn harvest, and the morning sight of smoke from chimneys and frost on the fields was particularly captivating! We also unexpectedly caught a winter fireworks display. Although it was short, the safety measures were impressive – they closed the rural road back to our accommodation for 7 hours for a 15-minute show! Thankfully, the accommodation manager was very helpful, and we made it back safely after dinner. It added an exciting, yet safe, little adventure to our trip. Highly recommended! I suggest preparing some food for a small BBQ and enjoying some beer. Fantastic!

When I entered the room, I could see the beautiful countryside and mountains, and I was able to enjoy a sense of freedom. I felt that the price was cheap because my family was able to use such a large room, hot springs, and sauna. It was well-equipped and had a luxurious feel.

The environment is very quiet, very suitable for staying for a few more days, and it feels like home. The kitchen has heating and a barbecue grill, as well as recycling bins. The beds were very comfortable and there was a large TV too. There is no need to worry about shortage of supplies during the few days you stay here. Towels and consumables are plenty. There is also an AEON store open until 10pm on the way back from the street, or a convenience store, which means you can cook. We went there at the end of January. The night sky was very clear. There were no lights on the way to the B&B, so we could see everything very clearly and beautifully. 😊Just be careful not to fall into the ditch... The person in charge told us that this B&B is run by the yakiniku restaurant ”Wasaku”, which is right on the street. It tasted great. After booking the accommodation, you can contact the email address to arrange a free shuttle bus. There seems to be no contact address on trip.com. You may look for the restaurant's email address online. It seems that the same group of people are looking at it.

The villa is a very kind home, it feels warm when you enter the door, and the facilities are very clean. And the location is excellent, walking to Jinlin Lake in the morning is about 5 minutes away, you can enjoy the tranquility before the tour group arrives. The main hot spring street and restaurant are about 5 minutes walking distance, it is highly recommended to travel with parents and can go back to the room to rest. We had a very cold two nights in Yufuin and it was snowing! It was a great pleasure to enjoy the snow in the hot springs at home, but before we enjoyed it, we needed to muster the courage to accept the cold challenge for two or three minutes! Because the hot spring and bathing place are outside the house, you need to walk outside for 30 seconds to 1 minute. If you encounter snow and ice, you may really have to walk slowly. After walking to the cabin, you have to take off your clothes quickly. Then immediately enter the indoor hot spring area and start to wash and reply warm! The hot springs are comfortable, especially the indoor hot springs are very hot and the temperature can be adjusted. The outdoor hot springs may not be hot enough because the weather is cold. We have tried to adjust but it was unsuccessful. Overall it is a good experience, but it is too cold for parents. Usually, parents who like to have been soaking, but only once a day here, they all say it is too cold, although it is only a few minutes cold, it also needs a lot of courage! If you go to the outdoor aisle, the place to change clothes in the hot spring house, and the bathroom location in the villa  There should be a better experience with long-term constant temperature heating ! 

What a blast I had here!!! I only stayed for one night and now I wish I had stayed longer. It was a Friday so Rio, the owner, organizes a night of games at the public gymnasium for teenagers (who although growing up already have the strength of super-powered samurais) and whoever else wants to participate. I haven't run and wake up with so many bruises since high school! It was really cool how everyone is quick to set the props for each game, we played 4 or 5 games in one hour!!!! It felt like a much longer time, everyone gave their best presence and participation all the time! It seems the other nights he takes everyone for a walk to see the stars, and Tuesdays there's also volleyball. Anyways, he is pretty proactive and creative , so I'm sure there's many variations and possibilities! The living room is very pretty, the sofas super comfortable and the view gorgeous! The bed was very hard :/ this was the only big issue for me. The onsen is so cozy, the water super smooth and instrumental music playing. Delicious! The conditioner smells great! I was a bit worried that they had too many rules, because when I contacted they informed about the need to leave the house everyday from 10 until 16. And that the eating time was very specific: 7:20 in the morning and 7 at night... So I was worried they would be too strict...but there's no need to join the food. I had breakfast and it felt like it would be at the communal dinning of beauxbatons, everyone sitting closeby with identical very beautifully presented meals that come in many quantity but small portions. It is not my jam, but for sure it is special! Some informations could be a bit more clear because they are a bit slow responding. For example they have a pick up time in front of the army at 6pm. I asked info for an amazing lady at the Art Center inside the station, Chika, and she called them. She ended up taking me herself and was the best company I could have found! She is an artist, we went to the supermarket and had great conversation! I recommend going to the art center to say hi to Chika! Lots of love, thank youuu Mountain Mamas!!!

Overall good. But if the place all could have got even more clean, would be much better. The spider webs are like everywhere And the onsen there once the window is open, the dirt are everywhere.

We took bus 36 from Beppu to Yufuin Station and took a taxi to the hotel for 1400 yen. In fact, we should get off at 2 stations in advance and walk closer. There is no convenience store near the hotel, so it is best to buy snacks and sodas in Beppu or buy them in Yufuin. The owner is a very enthusiastic aunt, even if not a lot of English, they are actively communicating with us. The food prepared by the aunt is very fresh and delicious. Because the snowy hot spring eyes were frozen by snow. Auntie paid our family 5,000 yen to soak in the nearby hot springs. Open the window of the room to see the mountain view. If it is summer or January winter, it will definitely be more beautiful. The room heating and hot water are enough. The parking lot next to the hotel has become a paradise for children to play in the snow. Although there is not much snow, it is worth it for children in the south.
