Room showing some wear and tear - lighting very dim and annoying in the room. Staff was very helpful and friendly. The bed was pretty hard and the most annoying thing was the bathroom light is motion activated with no option to turn it off - so at night it was too much for the eyes.

You can't fault the location of this hotel and from the outside it looks decent. But inside it's a different story with tired / out dated decor and renovation needed in a few areas. We booked a 'panoramic suite' for three nights which was meant to be a highlight of our holiday but it was disappointing and had no air conditioning so was unbearably hot. It definitely wasn't worth nearly 2000 euros for 3 nights even in peak season. Staff were mostly friendly and helpful though. I rarely take time to leave a review but over a month later I still feel ripped off by this hotel.

The availability of amenities -- opening the sauana and pool one hour before checkout when they close at 9pm (depsite restaurants being open past that nearby) -- was quite disappointing. As this was our primary reason for choosing this location. Please note that you should make dinner reservations ahead of time as well. That said, the staff, location, and breakfast were wonderful. I would caution anyone with a tight schedule to plan ahead if booking here but otherwise would come back.

The reception was very, very friendly and the treatments (2) were great. The staff were also friendly, but three quarters of the staff didn't understand German very well, which we found unfortunate. When I complained that there was a hair in my starter (last evening), the young lady responded kindly with a nod - and the matter was settled. When I repeated this to one of her colleagues, she received the same reaction - we found that very strange. We had to freeze in our room with an outside temperature of 7°C because the heating was broken (a first for us in a 4* hotel). The food was OK but unfortunately nothing more. The breakfast, however, was very extensive and always very clean and freshly presented - which was great. We probably won't be guests at the Hotel Hopfensee again because we think we can expect more from a 4*.
