Beware - a very very basic hotel, the beds are extremely small (2'6" wide) The Room and bathroom are generally Ok, but the heating, the hotel have a broken heating system and the manager has no idea how to turn it off, we were just told to keep the door open if we wanted the room to be cooler.! Dinner was average - small portions but the Raclette or Fondue was OK (an upgrade option)

Just back from our week long trip and we are really going to miss this place!! We booked it as wanted good value and had done research into accommodation locations in comparison to slopes and we were thrilled with our choice. Yes it is 'basic' in regards to facilities but it was perfect for us. Lovely big room with loads of storage - firm beds (which we like) and a massive balcony with full sized windows so we could soak up the view. Breakfast was provided each day with a selection of sweet and savory bakery items, meats, cheeses, yogurts, fruit salad and boiled eggs. I would've loved some veg such as tomatoes or cucumber to have been included too - but that might just be me that likes a bit of salad with a continental breakfast. Coffee machine was great too. Evening meals were great - proper homecooked rather than fancy, but we enjoyed every single one - and it was absolutely brilliant that they catered to my gluten free, egg free and dairy free diet - as I know that it's not easy to do so. We loved the staff and looked forward to heading up for a pre dinner drink in the little bar area. It is a hotel that caters for big groups too so bear that in mind as breakfast was a bit busy first thing, but not a real negative. The group we had were a lot of fun and greater us every morning and night (despite the language barrier)! Ski room was basic but functional woth each room being allocated a locker - and the best thing of all was that you literally walked out across the road and you were on the Rif Nell green slope!! You could then ski down to the Rif Nell Express, Romains and Marmottes lifts to crack on and start the day. Only slight negative was that the whole hotel including the room was really hot and not controllable. We slept with the balcony door open most nights. And it was t shirts/vest tops in the restaurant - especially when the sun was coming in. We will definitely be back to Alpe d'Huez and can't imagine staying anywhere else - walkable to the bars in the town and a Carrefour was about 3 mins away.

This hotel really made our skiing trip. The staff were all really friendly and humoured my poor attempts at French. The rooms and other facilities were well above our expectations for the price, particularly compared to another hotel in the same resort that we have stayed at previously. The food is a set menu, which may not suit restricted diets but it was excellent quality and we enjoyed all 3 courses every evening. They also offer an alternative if needed. The best point of all is the location and views of the pistes, particularly when sunbathing on the balcony after a hard day’s skiing.

Benji made the holiday a wonderful experience. Very attentive, helpful, and a talented musician. The position of the hotel is great with a 50m walk to the slopes. The restaurant gives arguably the best views in AD. Hotel rooms are clean, with a nice balcony and mountain views. Different menu every night, and although there is only one choice of food. It was always good quality. Mathi on reception was very helpful.

We stayed at Le Chaix as a family of six for a week. We booked through Crystal Ski. The hotel reception left a bit to be desired, but you dont spend much time there. We were too early to check in, so we left our bags in the luggage room and went to collect our skies and have a look around. Three twin rooms for the six of us, all of which were on the third floor with huge balconies overlooking the slopes. The rooms appear to have recently been refurbished with plenty of storage and a separate shower room and toilet. Very comfortable. Dinner varied each night, and sometimes there was a children's option. The food was OK, always plentiful. Sadly no free drinks, only water. Breakfast was a buffet - the pancake station being a huge hit! The staff at the hotel were fabulous - Benji and the lady with the curly black hair (sorry we didn't get your name)! made our holiday really special. The hotel is located right on the slopes - you literally walk across the road to the nursery slope. Perfect location. The location was really quiet. We all agreed that we'd return 👍

Stayed here through a Crystal ski package as a group of 12. Very poor: The evening meal food was atrocious on the whole, stone cold or lukewarm. Not big portion sizes. Food not cooked on the premises but they even made a poor job of heating it up! Apparently the chef just didn’t care (that from one of his colleagues!) The bar and lounge was only open from 7-9 while restaurant in use although after complaining a lot they extended it to 10pm. As a group we wanted somewhere to sit for our apres or to catch after dinner. There was nowhere to even buy a cuppa in the hotel. One night they locked the lounge/bar door so I couldn’t get in after I’d popped out. We arrived at 9.15pm on the first night, not delayed so Hôtel expecting us. Reception closed and rep struggled to find our room keys. Hôtel didn’t save any food for us and so the rep thrust a pizza menu in our hands and said they would reimburse us and left. Flipping nightmare to try and call through so ended up walking there at 10pm! Positives: Great location for slopes. Large twin room with plenty of storage, good bathroom and a balcony with great views. Breakfast was on the whole ok although often things not filled up. The young staff were pleasant. The reps gave us a good will payment for the debacle with the pizza/access and also a meal out at a restaurant (waiting on reimbursement) They also had some influence with the bar remaining open a little later but I doubt this will achieve a lasting change otherwise we wouldn’t have had these problems so far into the season.

The hotel was pleasant enough and I would return which is why I have scored it as 4/5. The rooms were clean and facilities were fine overall - could do with swapping the bulky table under the tv for a chest of drawers for more storage and more space. The hotel has a bit of a traditional/old fashioned charm. We stayed in a room with a balcony - lovely view from the balcony. As a room of 3 it was cramped and difficult to move around the room but we did manage. The weather was mild so we slept with the balcony doors open to control the temperature in the room. Location is the best part - right opposite the slopes with easy access to ski lockers below the hotel. Breakfast was great - continental with a side of boiled eggs. Evening meal was lovely for myself and any another meat eater in the party. The place is not very vegetarian friendly and some of the dishes served for vegetarians were very odd. Perhaps we should have emailed in advance to let them know but there was no indication that the food would be a set menu and we had assumed it would be a buffet like other places we have visited. That aside staff were friendly to us and helpful.

Currently staying at the hotel. Location is good. It’s clean and functional. The beds are comfortable and shower is good. The staff are friendly but useless! Breakfast is a sham! The first morning we went for breakfast an hour before breakfast service finished and there was nothing left! No pastries, no pancakes, no yogurts, no meat or cheese, no coffee and no milk! They also had nothing left to replenish it all with. There was bread and cereal (but no milk) and eggs. Every table was dirty also. The following mornings we came down even earlier and there was plenty of food but the staff lack attention. The boiled egg machine never has enough water in it so I have to ask for it to be refilled. They don’t notice when anything runs out like plates etc so again I have to ask. They let the coffee machine run empty rather than keeping it topped up and my fiancé swears he pressed latte and it definitely gave him a mocha! The lift is always wet because people wear their ski boots in it which you’re not supposed to do. Meaning the rest of us have to get wet socks when going back to our room. The ski lockers are clearly numbered and someone had taken ours meaning we were forced to take someone else’s. It’s not the staff fault but they should enforce the rules. The room gets “cleaned” each day apparently. They don’t make the bed for you. They give you more toilet roll when needed but left it up to us to actually replace it on the holder. They re fold the shower mat towel but other than that I don’t see what they do!?!? They haven’t given us any new shower gel miniatures as yet either which I suppose I’m going to have to ask for yet again!
