Innisfail City Motel

My partner and I stayed at this motel if you could even call it that. There were more permanent tenets than actual motel guests. We were put in a room next to these live in tenants. At first it was fine but then they would get loud as the night went on and the smoke from their cigarettes would come into our room as our window wouldn’t shut properly. This motel is nothing but disgusting and run down. I would not want anyone staying here. Also the black mold in the aircons was not very nice. I had stains all in my sheets and the smells in the room were just outrageous.

I don’t know where to start… Firstly, you need to check in at the reception of another motel, so seems dodgy from the start. I was given a key to my room & the drove to the motel to find that they key didn’t work/fit. I called reception at the other motel to be given instructions on how I can seek the caretaker & find the key myself. Really? I followed these instructions, which included knocking on a side door. A child answered & advised that her parent wasn’t home & she could not help me. This was an uncomfortable situation for both of us. I then tried calling reception again, but it went unanswered. I then drove back to the other motel where I was offered no alternative accommodation. The lady offered to meet me at the other motel. Upon returning to Innisfail City Motel, the caretakers sister appeared form a guest room with the key. This was odd, but hey, the key worked. When the lady from reception arrived she complained that I was ‘freaking out’, insinuating that this type of thing was normal. Finally I was in my room. I soon discovered that the shutter style front window doesn’t completely close, and therefore cigarette smoke from the caretakers sister & friends filled my room. At some point, someone set fire to an ash try and triggered a fire alarm. Could this get any worse? Yes! There is zero water pressure in the shower. Avoid!

It was comfortable

Never again I am unable to recommend this motel to anyone. I would highly recommend a number of training sessions in customer service and complaint handling and an improvement to their system.

No warning that water was to be turned off. No water for 20 hours. Had to use public toilets. No shower until it came back on. No staff available most of the time. Don't answer phone when you ring. Door locks automatically so if you accidentally lock yourself out it's hard to get hold of staff. Only a hot car park to sit outside. Smokers in close proximity on either side of our room.

Supermarket close by. Lovely river walking paths. Food shops with in walking distance.
