As a frequent traveler and a long-time Trip.com member, this was honestly one of the most disappointing stays I’ve ever experienced in Ipoh.
First of all, this property should not be marketed as a hotel. It feels much more like a serviced apartment or Airbnb. Using the Wyndham Hotel name creates expectations of a full hotel experience, but from the lobby, the long apartment-style corridors, the room setup, and even the breakfast area, it simply does not feel like a hotel.
There is no valet parking, despite many parking spaces in front of the building. We were informed by the security guard that those parking bays belong to the local council, so guests have to park at the basement.
The room itself was spacious, but the furnishings and amenities were disappointing. There was no telephone to contact reception; instead, only a phone number for the person in charge was provided. The bed was unusually high, the mattress was very firm, and the pillows were not comfortable. We chose a hotel expecting comfort, but unfortunately, this stay did not deliver. If the actual Wyndham Hotel is still under renovation and guests are being accommodated in another building, this should be clearly stated before booking. Calling it a serviced apartment would be much more accurate and would help guests more.
Breakfast was another major disappointment. The dining area looked more like a temporary setup than a hotel restaurant. The buffet selection was extremely limited. There was no egg station, no butter for the bread, and only one type of bread (wholemeal) with a single basic toaster. Even many budget hotels provide a more complete breakfast experience.
Another surprise was that there was only one TV in the living room. There wasn’t even a TV in the bedroom, which again made it feel like an apartment rather than a hotel.
The only highlight during our stay was the large bathtub, which looked impressive. Unfortunately, the water pressure was so slow that it took more than 30 minutes just to fill the bathtub, making it impractical to use.
Overall, I strongly feel that the management should clearly present this property for what it currently is, rather than creating expectations associated with a full-service hotel. Guests come from different backgrounds (many foreigners as well) and have different expectations when booking a hotel. If it were marketed honestly as a serviced apartment with pricing that reflects the facilities provided, guests could make a better choice.
I’ve stayed at TUI BLUE Ipoh before, and the difference is like night and day. I booked this property because I trusted the Wyndham name, but unfortunately, apart from the branding, it did not meet the standard I expected.
I sincerely hope the management takes this feedback seriously and improves both transparency and the overall guest experience.
