Aerotel Airport Hotel (Qingdao Jiaodong International Airoprt)

Great hotel. Easy to find, just follow the yellow VIP hotel line on level two of the airport. Easy to navigate from metro line 8 station. In my room, I had a glass window that faced the road in my shower, there was a blind though. Check my photos. As a non-smoker also like strict no smoking policy.

Directly linked to the airport terminal, which means you don't have to go outdoors in the cold winter nights. Not much service and not all staff can communicate well in English. It's essentially a nicer capsule hotel with privacy. Soundproof not satisfactory and the AC is terribly noisy. Having said that, it's my 4th time staying there, simply due to its location and low price.

Hotel was very nice. Two big beds, nice restroom. The TV was next to the wall and close to the beds so it was tight and could have easily bumped into it. It was a little hot in the room but other than that, clean, modern, and had all the amenities. Bathroom was big and luxurious and finally the breakfast buffet was incredible. In China, the staff do not smile as much as those in Japan but get used to it. To get to this airport hotel, i had to find the #1 gate on the 4F walk down a long corridor and then turn left. Look for VIP signs. The breakfast buffet was amazing and the price was only like $78 Canadian for one night which is a lot for their standards. Highly recommended. It was a one night layover so I went downtown but the last train back was 10pm. I didn't know that from using AMap, the maps program in China, and missed it. It cost me $30. I had to negotiate with the driver who first suggested 200 RMB ($40). He then lowered it to 180, 160 but I said 130 and then he said 150 because he had to pay a 20 rmb toll. I used alipay and paid it. I guess i forgot to tip. Nice hotel overall. Only a few people ate the breakfast buffet at 5:45am.

Without a doubt the worst airport hotel I have ever stayed in all my years as an appraiser for tourism authorities and hotel associations globally. The room was small and stuffy and the air-conditioning could not be adjusted so I had to resort to sleeping with the windows open. The bathroom had an unpleasant odour of sewage pipes and the light in the entry vestibule was malfunctioning. There wasn't even a side table at one end of the bed. The entire corridor rattles every time someone leaves a room which disturbs your sleep and that happens frequently during the wee hours of the morning. The normal television channels are non existent - no English news channel despite the fact that airport hotels should cater for departing and transiting foreign visitors. This might be an international airport but the underlying assumption seems to be that all guests use their mobile phones with the same regularity and facility as the local Chinese. You need to scan a QR code to connect to WiFi for instance. Finally, do not pay the 78 CNY for breakfast because the hours are ridiculous. It starts at 530 a. m. (completely understandable for early flights which airport hotels are meant for) but stops at 8 a.m.!!! What if your flight is at 1130 a.m.? Grab breakfast and then go back to sleep??? Furthermore, while the Trip site lists the breakfast hours as until 830 a.m., the breakfast chit issued by the hotel gives the contradictory information that the breakfast stops at 8 a.m. The breakfast spread was also pathetic - no egg station, only hard boiled eggs ; no juices, only fizzy drinks. Can anyone imagine drinking Coca Cola or Sprite the first thing in the morning and what that does to the gut ??? The caterer, sensing my despair, brought me a mini carton of coconut juice from a nearby fridge-dispenser. You get a better value breakfast spread for the equivalent cost at any hotel in the central Shinan area of Qingdao. Verdict : avoid this hotel at all costs. All it does is blatantly exploit its position near the terminal building, which is its SOLE redeeming feature.
