Hotel Oriental Express Kagoshima Tenmonkan

This hotel is great! It's a five-minute walk to Tenmonkan, the center of Kagoshima, which is perfect for dining and shopping. The breakfast is absolutely fantastic, and it's also very convenient for getting to Sakurajima.

The location was a bit of a downside, but it was clean and I had a good stay. I noticed a slight drain smell coming from the toilet, which I assume is due to its age.

The location is great, right in front of the tram stop, and there are many good restaurants nearby. The public bath is also a nice touch for unwinding after a long day. I booked a twin room, and as expected for a Japanese business hotel, it was small. I had to open my suitcase near the entrance as there wasn't a separate luggage rack. On the second floor, there's a reception area where you can enjoy unlimited coffee and other drinks. While the amenities aren't extensive, they are well-stocked at the reception. There's also a gym, and the breakfast restaurant offers a fantastic view, especially for catching the sunrise over Sakurajima in the morning.

I booked a twin room this time, and it was incredibly cramped. The bathroom, surprisingly, was quite spacious, like one you'd find at home. (^_^;) However, since it's a new hotel, the facilities were clean and that was a plus. I think they should add more Japanese-style dishes and Kagoshima-style 'obanzai' (small side dishes) to the breakfast. Pho is definitely not needed.
