In late July we decided to flee from the scorching heat and hordes of tourists in Alanya, and head inland to some cooler, less visited places. After a few hours of driving across epic landscapes we found ourselves in Karaman, at the Nadir Business Hotel. My partner and I spent three nights there, and let me tell you, it was proper mint! First of all, the hotel's name, Nadir, threw us off a bit. I mean, "nadir" sounds like a fancy way of saying "rock bottom," but don't let that put you off, because this place is anything but. It's like they're trying to be ironic or something, who knows? We checked in, and the blokes at the reception were friendly enough, always ready to help us out with anything we needed. We get to our room, and it was like stepping into a swanky spaceship. Proper modern, it was. The room was decked out with all the fancy stuff - a flat-screen telly, a little fridge with complimentary bottles of water, and a bed that felt like sleeping on a cloud. Now, the view from the window. I mean, we didn't really expect the Eiffel Tower, but we didn't reckon on staring at a bunch of air conditioner units on a dark patio. Bit of a letdown, that was. The good thing was, at least that patio didn't let the sun turn our room into a blooming oven. So, silver linings and all that, I suppose. If you want the street view (south), with all its noises and sun, ask the reception during the check-in. The best part about this place was the breakfast. They had this buffet spread, and it was like an international buffet all in one. You could start your day with some omlette, then move on to some salads and cakes (nice mix, imagine that!), and wash it all down with a good old British cup of tea. We were well impressed. The hotel didn't have a gym or pool, but we didn't bother with that. Who wants to work out when you're on a holiday, right? But don't let that put you off, because the lobby area was right posh. They had complimentary tea, cushy sofas, tables, and some soft piano tunes playing in the background. You could just sit there and chill like a queen. The hotel's location was spot on - smack dab in the city centre. We didn't need any transport, and everything was within walking distance. And talk about parking, no fuss, no muss! Free parking right on the street outside the hotel. Easy-peasy. Now, the air con was a bit dodgy, I gotta admit. But here's the thing - it wasn't as sweltering hot in Karaman as it was in Alanya, so it didn't bother us too much. We managed to stay comfortable enough. And the best part, the real reason we came here, was to escape the heat. inflated prices and the crowds. Karaman delivered on those fronts, alright. It was like a breath of fresh air, and the hotel's relaxed atmosphere added to the whole experience. All in all, though, the Nadir Business Hotel was a proper hidden gem.
