All was good - from check in to check out, breakfast very good! Surprisingly quiet, but close to town centre. Easy private parking

Great place, perfect location, cracking breakfast and a welcoming feel. Only 10 mins walk to Keswick with dedicated parking and at a great price, this was an excellent find. Host could not have done any more - superb! Highly recommended.

Things started badly at Craglands when we arrived and found the front door locked with a sign saying if we hadn’t advised ETA we may have to wait an hour for the room to be made up. We telephoned Eldon and he said he had emailed us requesting our ETA.. we had been driving all day so I thought I must have missed it, but no.. it had been sent 3 months earlier! We let ourselves in with his instructions to a dark hallway. On the desk were numerous laminated notices giving various orders… so many orders: where to leave car keys, how to order breakfast, the need to checkout on time because cleaners had been upset etc! At first we found this all very funny it was so bad, then became annoyed.. where was the hospitality? We found our room ourselves, a small twin with not enough room to fit our suitcases and garishly fitted out. Breakfast was OK, mainly self-serve with hot options cooked by Eldon. When we went to checkout Eldon demanded cash despite having taken credit card details with the booking. This was the first time I had heard this was expected.. and meant us going out in the rain to find a working ATM. We were incredibly happy to leave. One of the worst places I’ve ever stayed.

Wouldn’t recommend. Tired, old fashioned rooms.. with out of date biscuits. I found the owner intense and he insisted I pay cash, which caught me off guard as I like the guarantee my card brings. Owner insisted on an ETA first day and wanted to know my plans so he could decide where to park my car. Keys had to be left incase he needed to move it. Breakfast was poor. Cold bacon, old cereals, frozen bread I had to toast myself… I felt really let down. I left without breakfast the last day as I just couldn’t stomach it. Keswick is beautiful. This place isn’t.

Let down. I came here years ago and it was lovely. New owner insisted on an ETA, wanted to know my plans to arrange parking, insisted I leave my key somewhere if needed, said I had to pay cash, had to say if I wanted more than 1 sausage or 1 bacon… just intense … it just wasn’t a nice feeling. Breakfast was poor. Frozen bread I had to toast, cold bacon, defrosted fruit … old sauces and cereal. I couldn’t stomach it the last day and left early. Room was tired, different colour walls (!) and old fashioned. Beds were clean. Told room would be ‘serviced’ but only emptied the bin and our biscuits were out of date. It cost me £330 for 3 nights… I will never be back. Keswick is beautiful, this is not.

Excellent welcome! Superbly well organised! Valet parking available, as there is limited space, but Eldon makes it work fantastically well! Beautiful room, pristine white sheets and towels! Cleaned to a very high standard! Breakfast is the best we have ever had - 5 star hotel standard! Eldon made our holiday - Thank you. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be returning! It was a last minute booking, so there wasn’t a lot of choice. The accommodation needs a severe update , carpets, wallpaper all 70’s…. Nothing matched , carpets….what your parents had in the 70’ . Breakfast was ok. Host was friendly & very informative.

I prepaid for the 2 x night stay, Owner refuse to check me in until I paid for 2 x nights in Cash as he stated he hadn't received payment, I had an email confirming payment and offer a credit but he refused, stating Cash Only I had to look for alternative accommodation as I felt it was a scam

Do check in around your eta given to Eldon, complications can arise I gather if this is not done. I booked on ********** and, believing I'd paid by card, arrived three days later...to find one of the first things I was told was that, 'you haven't been charged, we only take cash and there is an ATM at the nearest garage'. Just wondering what happened to my card details given over to **********. On arrival Eldon seemed brusque in welcome, this mellowed somewhat. OK - I'd agreed a single room with shared bathroom, but didn't expect it to be one and a half floors below my bedroom...3am visit not easiest... The bedroom was spotlessly clean, tho small and the breakfast was ok, lots of helpful laminated notes around to help use shower, breakfast booking system, car parking system. The carpark is very tight and exits onto two blind bends - I turned left and swung around the next bollards about 100m away if I wanted to go back down into Keswick. The outside look of the place is not helped by properties either side of it being renovated with all the usual builders materials and scaffolding etc. Other reviews of double rooms are more glowing, sorry I cant be more effusive about the single room at the top of the house.
