Glendale Guest House

Nice cosy bedroom, nice breakfast. A place well located, 10mn walk to the centre of Keswick. Great.

There's certain things I look for when booking a B&B. A modern decor, a comfortable bed and a good shower. Oh and parking. Glendale appeared to promise all of these staying they had parking (which they don't), photos showed modern looking rooms whereas ours hadn't been decorated for 30 years and had a brass bed that should have been condemned. The shower made an electric shower look exciting it was so weak 🚿 Breakfast was reasonable with a good fruit salad bowl if you got down early. A word of warning (other than beware of the bed) and that is to make sure no one follows you in the B&B when you enter. A guest let my wife in and someone immediately followed her. The owner yelled at my wife for letting strangers in the house even when she tried to explain it wasn't her 😡

Not the most welcoming of b&bs…. Arrival instructions given over the phone as the host was out (7pm Friday) Breakfast is very rigid … and I asked for hot milk with my coffee at breakfast) and was told ‘no, I’m busy’ - This was after being allocated a 8am breakfast slot and not another person arriving until 8.30, How is it that hard to microwave milk for 30 seconds!? The room was clean but bed far too soft to get a good night sleep for me.

Very pleasant short 2-night stay over the New Year. Booked this guest house based on the reviews on here. We had a bit of spare time before checking in so knocked on the door to ask about parking. We were given our keys early and advice about parking, as it happens, we parked right outside in the street for free parking. The room was a good size for what we needed, which was only somewhere to kip as we knew we would be out walking all day. The big high bed was super comfy, Wi-Fi in the room was very strong at no extra charge, usual tea/coffee facilities provided with a bottle of water and biscuits. On the side in the room was a breakfast menu which required populating for the next morning's order. There was a good choice from your full English to simple food like egg on toast. We both opted for the full English. Breakfast time and the food was excellent, the produce was top quality and all cooked to my liking, bacon slightly crispy, it arrived piping hot with a good pot of coffee. I don't normal have two breakfasts on the trot, but I ordered the same again for the next day and again it was excellent. Would definitely return, and we plan to.

It was quite a nice stay at Glendale GH. We stayed for two nights. The GH is couple of minutes away from the High Street by walk. A lot of restaurants there. Rooms were well appointed, good shower, tea-coffee making facilities. Host Barry was friendly. As we were vegetarians (no egg), he went to market to get some egg-less nougat for breakfast. The breakfast was served with personal care and attention by Barry and his wife. There were cereals, fruits, bread toast, baked beans, baked potatoes and tomatoes etc. available. For us they got hot milk to mix with tea and cereals. My wife really enjoyed the breakfast there for two days and it was filling and energetic for the activities of the first half of the day! Only thing we didn’t like was the bed. Though double, it was comparatively small. In short the hospitality was excellent and the stay comfortable.
