Sukau backpackers bnb is situated just up from the river in a delightful natural landscaped garden. A series of wooden bungalows and a restaurant and seating area are featured. The bungalows are in need of some maintenance but are functional and the air con and fan are good. The atmosphere is one of tranquility, not in any way commercial or flashy. The package we took was three days, two nights included all cruises spotting wildlife on the river and full board. The cruises were well organised, on time and the guide was pleasant and informative. The package included transport from different pick up points to and from the lodge and was incredibly good value. Nothing luxurious but solid option for independent travellers. Can be booked through WhatsApp.

“Sukau Backpackers B&B is a wonderful place to stay—clean, cozy, and surrounded by peaceful nature. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, making the whole experience feel warm and welcoming. A perfect spot for anyone visiting Sukau!”

This is the best place in Sukau, quiet, peaceful. Everyone is kind and helpful but some of their guests are mean to sabotage this beautiful place. This happened during check out when a couple refuse to pay for the elephant private cruise because they were unlucky to see the wildlife and threaten to write bad review if the staff keep on asking for payment. Sadly the couple checked out without paying them. I don't understand why they do such things to this lodge backpackers. I think their price is the cheapest in Sukau. I will come again for sure.

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. This place was a huge disappointment. The facilities and basic services are far below standard, but the worst part is how they treat tourists — you constantly feel like you’re being taken advantage of. If you want to see elephants (which seems like a standard part of the tour), you’re charged an extra €40 per person. After the morning cruise drops you off, they offer you yet another tour to actually go see the elephants — it feels like a setup to keep charging more. Also, be very careful with the conditions: the guides are not certified, the organization is chaotic, and the overall experience is poorly managed and unprofessional. Honestly, you’re better off spending a bit more and going somewhere reliable, transparent, and respectful toward visitors.

Location: Located in the village of Sukau in the Kinabatangan District. Easy to find just beside the main road. However only accessible with own transport or with a shuttle provided by the homestay. It is located off the Kinabatagan river and not along the river. The surroundings were very rustic and had the kampong feel. There was a family of long tailed macaques running around the place and on the rooftops of the chalet. Reception: Keys were available on the unmanned reception desk. So did a self check in. Room: Rooms are located away from the reception area and requires a short walk. The path to the rooms are not covered. Booked a triple bed room/chalet. Room was small with one single bed and a queen sized bed appears rather aged and in need a makeover. There was a small desk and a single chair. Due to the small room size, it felt abit of a squeeze especially with your luggage bags opened. The is a fan and a working air condition. The lights were adequate but some of the bulbs were not working. The windows are covered with mosquito netting but some of the lourvers were not functioning. The mattresses were on the thin side but still passable. Linen was clean. However the blankets were very thin and small. Towels were provided. Toilet size is good. Water pressure was however very weak and there was no hot water. The worse thing was apparently the village generator malfunction and we had no running water in the chalet the next morning and had to fetch water from a common pipe to flush our toilet! Would have been nice to be informed by the owners and would have been happy if they also provide a pail for us to carry the water. Instead we had to filled up four 1.5 litre bottles to flush the toilet. As expected for a B&B, except for a bottle of shampoo and toilet papers, no other toilet amenities were provided. Facilities: There is a eating place next to the reception which also doubles up as a recreational / rest area. Ready made coffee and tea was available around the clock and there was a water dispenser for both cold and hot water. No internet service was provided. Food: Food was provided as part of the package but it was at best very mediocre. Could have provided better quality and more quantity for the price they were charging. Overall, the experience was underwhelming. Need a major overhaul.

This place is falling apart, completely run down. The garden is nice and from outside the huts look ok, once you go inside it's just indescribable. Mold everywhere, almost no water pressure, etc. They could make it so much better with so little (painting the walls, new mattresses and beds would do it) but instead they are building new huts across the road. Meals are basic but ok, the biggest problem again is lack of cleanliness around. The state of the cups they provide is unbelievable (once again, with very little they could provide new cups as the ones they provide are by no means presentable). The reception is abandoned except during meal times and they sell no drinks there. The only good thing apart from the garden, was the tour guide. Nice, very knowledgeable and paying close attention to any animals around. We decided to leave one day earlier.

We stayed for one night in this Bed and breakfast. It’s to the river and not too big. In the afternoon we take a river tour which also booked at the B&B. They served a diner wich was very tasteful. The beds a comfortable and the rooms clean but simple. The people over there were friendly and helpful. In the morning also a breakfast witch was simple but oke.
