My first Ryokan experience and it was great. Beautiful interior, good location to walk some parts of the Nakasendo trail, lovely traditional Japanese food, nice onsen and very kind people. They do their utmost to make you feel comfortable. The hotel has been owned by the same family for ages. Highly recommended.

The hotel is very tired and in need of renovation. The onsen is dirty. The food is good, but it's buffet-style. The reception staff is excellent, which makes the hotel experience even better.

I've been using this when I come to Kiso for a long time, and it's still as good as ever.

Within 10 minutes walking distance from the station. Comfortable room and beds, make sure you book one with its wn bathroom/toilet. We had a hot tub which was fun. Friendly accommodating staff, good service; good options for gluten free; make sure you preorder western-style food if you want bread with your breakfast; no decaffeinated coffee; the bar serves wine but it is not terribly nice; beer ok; very clean; quiet;

Our amazing hosts made this an especially memorable experience. From the moment we arrived through to our departure nothing was too much trouble and everything was so gracious. The atmosphere is incredibly calm and relaxing and the onsen only added to this experience (in our case a private one). The food was throughly Japanese and though different, especially the breakfast, it made the visit even more authentic and memorable. There were no issues catering to wife’s vegetarian needs as well. The room was incredibly comfortable and again authentic. An amazing stay made even better by our wonderful hosts.

Beautiful guesthouse, lovely friendly staff. We booked last minute so all the larger nicer rooms were sold out and missed out on the dinner package. Would definitely stay here again if back in Kiso Fukushima, however would book early and arrange dinner and nicer room. Still loved our stay

Located right on the river, we could hear the gentle sound of the water from our comfortable Japanese-style room. The communal onsen was clean and well stocked with shampoos, soap, hair conditioner and more. We enjoyed the meals. Dinner was a traditional “samurai” meal presented with historical context in English. The hospitality was superlative. All in all a very nice place to stay.

What an absolute gem of a hotel. So welcoming and helpful and beautifully prepared and tasty food Japanese food. Food prepared without all the artificial tastes that seem to have crept into other places. Would highly recommend the experience.

Great central location and base for magnificent hikes through the “Japanese Alps”. The staff were incredibly attentive and caring. The daily breakfast was traditional and delicious. The surrounding bars and restaurants were authentic and old worldly. We loved it!

Very traditional Japanese hotel. Extremely courteous staff, and nice place to explore Nakasendo trail. 15 min walk to hotel from station, with shuttle bus service back to station. Fine dining experience with very traditional Japanese food ( practice your chopsticks!) and first night was Shogun dinner with a bit of theatre thrown in with film clip, drum beat, bells and procession to table. Thank you for the experience.

We joined 9 others for Walk Japan’s Nakasendo-Kiso Road tour and stayed at Kaido Roman Onyado Tsutaya. It was such a wonderful, comfortable and beautiful place. The staff was so helpful and considerate. The room was clean and comfortable. The food at both dinner and breakfast was delicious and beautifully prepared. The setting with the mountains and forest in the background was perfect. Our only complaint is that we couldn’t stay longer…we had a journey to complete. But we will be back. We highly recommend Kaido Roman Onyado Tsutaya when near the Kiso Road journey.

A lovely, quiet and comfortable Ryokan with excellent food and service. The sound of the Kiso River was very calming. Choose a room with its own private onsen. Highly recommended.

Nice and friendly welcome in the hotel. We had a Japanese room which was spacious and clean. Breakfast and diner were included, large portions, but tastefully and very nice presented.

The hotel is situated within walking distance from the train station and they have bus shuttle service as well. The room is spacious, staff are friendly and approachable. Free use of yakuta within the premises. Seperate male/female onsen are available for use. Samurai ryokan is amazing and staff is very attentive to our needs.
