Hotel Crown Hills Kokura

This is an older hotel, but it's very well-maintained. The breakfast, public bath, and location are all excellent. I would highly recommend it, even for solo travelers.

The front desk staff's attitude was appalling. They constantly and loudly urged us to pay for the room, displaying aggressive gazes, body language (including gestures and banging on the computer), and a rude tone of voice. This was by far the most humiliating experience we've had in over 30 years of staying at Japanese hotels. In the public bath on the first floor, we saw a large cockroach crawling in the sink. The sink's drain also had black grime, which was completely unacceptable. The hotel's sole redeeming feature was its delicious breakfast.

Excellent value for money. While the facilities are a bit dated, they are well-maintained and quite comprehensive, even boasting a spacious public bath. The breakfast quality significantly exceeds what you'd typically find at this price point. The only minor drawbacks are the noticeable price fluctuations and its slightly inconvenient distance from Kokura Station.

While I came with my sibling, we had separate rooms, so I pretty much stayed alone. This is a hotel I often stay at whenever I visit Kokura. The location is fantastic. It's near Tanga Market, and most main tourist attractions are within a 10-minute walk. A Lawson convenience store is right across the street, plus there are 7-Eleven and FamilyMart locations close by. There are plenty of restaurants nearby, so the location is truly faultless. The facilities do show their age, which is expected given the hotel's history. If you're particular about cleanliness, you might want to consider paying more for a higher-end hotel. The large public bath is perfect for unwinding both in the morning and evening. I didn't try breakfast, so I can't comment on it. While I've heard it's good, I'd recommend heading to the Kokura Station arcade for food instead; it's very close and has many options.

The hotel is a 10-15 minute walk from Kokura Station, which is manageable even with luggage. While it's an older building with somewhat dated facilities, the cleanliness is impeccable, typical of Japanese hotels. The lobby staff are polite and friendly, and the large public bath on the first floor is perfect for unwinding after a day of travel. The complimentary cold barley tea available in the lobby was a lifesaver during my hot August visit.

I stayed here due to its convenient location and affordable price. While it's a no-frills hotel, I found my stay comfortable, especially with amenities like the Binchotan charcoal bath and a buffet breakfast offering plenty of mentaiko.

It seems to offer good value for money. The breakfast was also enjoyable, even for Korean guests.
