Rico Hotel Kokura

It was an old hotel, but the service was good. The surrounding area seemed like a red-light district, but we had no issues. I'd use it again.

I booked this hotel because it was relatively cheap at around 8,000 yen per night, close to Kokura Station, especially since it was hard to find a hotel during a popular idol concert in Fukuoka. I figured the low price might be due to the area having many adult entertainment venues. When I arrived, the exterior looked aged, probably over 50 years old. I had hoped for renovated interiors, but they gave off the same old vibe as the outside. After checking in and entering the room, there was an incredibly strong cigarette smell, like someone had just been smoking. I immediately opened the window to air it out. The exhaust fan was broken, so opening the window, which had no screen, was the only option. I even had a power outage at one point. As someone who loves to travel, this was the worst room I've ever stayed in. Toiletries like toothbrushes and towels cost extra. There was free curry in the morning, but it was the most watery and bland curry I've ever tasted. I honestly think this room would only be acceptable if it cost 4,000 yen. I would never want to stay here again.

It is close to the station and there are many things to see nearby. Accessibility is the best! However, it is not suitable for those with sensitive nerves. Breakfast consists of curry and a cup of water. There is a convenience store on the first floor... The staff are friendly. There is a Korean proverb that says, "Cheap things are often of poor quality." The window opens about a hand's width. It is a sunny room. You have to request a non-smoking room.

Very Showa era style, suitable for a solo traveler passing through Kokura.

It's close to the railway, so it might be a bit noisy, but overall it's good. They even provide breakfast, which is curry.

It's not clean and even with the windows closed, a cold wind blows in.
