"This hotel is super convenient, just about 200 meters from Takayama Station. The location is excellent! There's a drugstore right outside and a FamilyMart, and a 7-Eleven just a short walk away. The room was really comfortable, the bed was quite big, and the view from the window was nice. Plus, it even had a washing machine and microwave! The foot bath on the top floor was perfect for a relaxing soak before heading out in the morning. And on the second floor, there's a hot spring bath and a breakfast/dinner buffet. Overall, I was very satisfied."

"So cozy and i was lucky to have the best roomies ever ☀️ 🪲PROS - has a shuttle bus and multiple times a day or a bus station close by - inner part of the city is reachable within 20-25 mins of walking and the folk village is very close - kind owner and cozy interior with a very homey feel - kitchen and bathrooms were easily accessible and clean, shampoo and shower gel were included - coin laundry and coin dryer were easy to use and cheap as well ❤️🩹CONS - not really a con, but remember to bring a towel and toothbrush/toothpaste, if you forget it you can also get a towel at the Inn - 25min on foot is not that far away from the inner city and it’s great that the folk village is so close (if you want to visit) - but i had my focus on different things during my visit, so next time i would book something closer to the inner part of the city and the travel bus station 🌱 all in all, i really enjoyed my stay"

"This hostel is a budget-friendly option. The family room with bunk beds is great; it could probably fit six people at a push, but for a family of three, it was very spacious, and everyone got their own bed, which made for a good night's sleep. It's a bit of a walk from the train station and the city center, but Takayama isn't that big, so you can get around quickly on foot. Just be aware that dining options near the hostel are quite limited, so you'll need to plan your meals."

"This hotel is absolutely perfect!!! The room is super spacious, we could open all three of our suitcases. It's only a 1-minute walk from the Nohi Bus Terminal, which is incredibly convenient! Maruaki is just a 5-minute walk away. Cross the street from the hotel and walk straight to the old town and morning market; the location is truly excellent, the kind where you don't even need navigation. The room has an induction cooktop, microwave, and various utensils, so you can cook your own meals. There's a large supermarket and McDonald's behind the hotel, but you need to take an underpass and walk for about 10 minutes. All in all, it's perfect. I'm so satisfied."

"Arriving in Takayama by highway bus, I chose to stay at the same Residence Hotel as my previous visit. It's incredibly convenient, located just a left turn from the Nohi Bus Terminal exit, making it zero distance from both the bus and JR stations. The luxury suite is huge, featuring a balcony, four beds, and a fully equipped kitchen with pots, pans, a microwave, and a large refrigerator. The washing machine with a dryer was an absolute lifesaver. Even better, all the drinks in the fridge were complimentary, including two 2L bottles of mineral water, beer, sake, green tea, and cola. Basic condiments like salt, soy sauce, pepper, and cooking oil were also provided. There's a supermarket right next door, perfect for buying Hida beef and cooking up a feast."

"The hotel is in an excellent location with great amenities nearby. It's just a bridge away from Miyagawa Morning Market and very close to the old town of Takayama. During my two-day stay, all the other guests I encountered were European, and I was the only Asian person in the entire backpacker room, which was a very unique experience."

"Has everything that a family will need on vacation! Very well thought out layout and amenities. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was simple but had a good variety, and service was warm. You choose a timing of your liking for your breakfast on check in. Laundry room was complimentary and highly appreciated for families. Kids enjoyed the play area with tent and projector tv tremendously. Location is excellent, just minutes away from the train station. Only small issue was there is one flight of stairs to get to the hotel, but staff were happy to assist with luggage if required (we just carried the luggage ourselves). Thank you for the excellent stay."

"2nd time using this place, and as usual, been a really pleasant and enjoyable one For the price that you pay for, the location is near the train station, bus terminal and walkable distance to the old town as well. Extremely convenient and efficient place. As usual, staff who was working there were really helpful! And there was this pretty japanese lady, who by the end of our stay went out of her way to assist in sending my snowboard all the way over to hokkaido to my next hotel. Best services ever 🫰 Location was amongst all the best food the city could provide too!"

"Sakura Guest House is a hidden gem in Takayama. I stayed here for 4 consecutive nights. I arrived at Takayama Station by local train from Toyama, transferring at Inotani Station, a journey of about 2 hours in total, costing 1690 yen. From the East Exit of Takayama Station, I turned left and walked straight along the main road for about 700 meters, reaching the guesthouse in about 10 minutes. From the guesthouse, it's a walkable distance to tourist attractions like Miyagawa Morning Market, the historical preservation area of Machiya, Takayama Jinya, Jinya Morning Market, Hachiman-gu Shrine's grand torii gate, and Higashiyama Walking Course. It's also convenient to take the Nohi Bus to destinations like Shirakawa-go, Kamikochi, and Shinhotaka. I stayed in a mixed dormitory bunk bed on the second floor, which has 10 beds. The bedding was soft and comfortable. The entire guesthouse is clean and beautiful, with complete facilities, including a drying area. There are 4 spacious shower rooms on the first floor, and a total of 4 women's restrooms on both the first and second floors. The first floor also has a communal lounge and a common kitchen equipped with an induction cooker, refrigerator, microwave, oven, kettle, tea bags, and coffee. You can buy ingredients at a nearby large supermarket and cook your own meals. On the second floor, there's a coin-operated washing machine (300 yen per wash) and a dryer (100 yen for 20 minutes). What was truly touching and memorable was how exceptionally gentle and friendly the owners were. Their service was incredibly thoughtful and warm. Despite me not knowing English or Japanese, they patiently explained everything to me using a translator, constantly emphasizing that I should feel free to approach them with any questions. My bottom bunk (bed C) didn't have a privacy panel at the head of the bed, which I felt lacked privacy and caused disturbance when others came to this corner to retrieve their luggage. When I raised this issue with the owner, he immediately found cardboard and taped it up, allowing me to sleep peacefully. I felt very safe and warm because of this. This guesthouse is the best place to stay when traveling solo in Takayama, offering excellent value for money. I had a wonderful and pleasant trip here. I absolutely love Takayama and will definitely return to stay here again. See you next time!”"

"First time in Takayama and wanted to try staying in Ryohan style hotel; took about 6 mins walk from Takayama station to hotel; not obvious to find the main door; no lift but staff will carry the luggages to room for us; love the free breakfast and unlimited choice of tea to consume throughout the day; comfortable bed and clean room; impressed with 2 sinks and space there but the shower area is quite small"
