This hotel offers a unique historic atmosphere with Japanese wooden building and Japanese-style rooms featuring interesting decor. It offer clean and well maintained facilities the make the stay very comfortable. The hotel offers the famous Kin no Yu (“Golden Hot Spring) in open air. It is not crowded for most of the time and make the soak in the hot spring rather relaxing and quiet. The staff are attentive to details and make the guest feels welcome.

You get what you pay for. The hotel has its own golden hot springs, and soaking in them was incredibly relaxing. The room was large and comfortable, and the service was commendable. Breakfast was a very ceremonial experience. Nearby there's a shopping street, similar to an ancient town in China, where I bought quite a few things.

My brother and I had the absolute best time at Arima Onsen Tocen Goshobo, and it was without a doubt the highlight of our entire journey through Japan. From the moment we arrived, we were treated like family. The atmosphere of this historic ryokan is incredibly peaceful and authentic – you can really feel the centuries of tradition here. The hot springs were pure magic. The waters of Arima are famous for a reason, and soaking in both the indoor and outdoor baths after long days of exploring was pure bliss. We felt all our travel stress melt away. The food was an experience in itself. The kaiseki dinner we had was honestly the best dinner we have ever had in our entire lives. Every course was a work of art – beautifully presented, incredibly fresh, and bursting with flavor. From the sashimi to the sukiyaki to the perfectly cooked local fish, every single bite was pure perfection. It wasn't just a meal; it was a culinary journey. Breakfast was just as impressive and equally delicious. A very special thank you to the staff! Everyone was incredibly warm, attentive, and welcoming. They explained everything patiently, made us feel completely at ease, and even gave us great recommendations for exploring the town. Their hospitality truly made our stay unforgettable. We felt so well taken care of from check-in to check-out. We left Tocen Goshobo feeling refreshed, relaxed, and already dreaming of coming back. If you are looking for an authentic, luxurious, and heartwarming onsen experience in Arima, this is the place. Highly recommended!

This hotel is 850 years old, so I came here with the intention of experiencing a bit of history. There's a hot spring right inside the hotel, so I recommend staying one night to enjoy the onsen and explore the surrounding town.

We had an absolutely wonderful time at Arima Onsen Goshoboh. The room was very spacious with all the amenities you could need, and it was such a great touch having two massage chairs in the room! Dinner and traditional kaiseki breakfast were quite unique - some of the dishes were a bit too specific for our taste and we didn't try everything, but it was still an interesting culinary experience overall. What really stood out was the honeymoon surprise at dinner - a beautifully presented dessert with a flame that revealed a flower, with cute little figurines inside. They even let us keep them as a souvenir! Such a thoughtful and memorable touch. At the end of our stay, the hotel kindly drove us to the bus stop, which was a really nice gesture. Overall a fantastic experience - we'd love to come back again!

The room was quite spacious, and the massage chair was a pleasant surprise – very comfortable to use. The room introduction was quite detailed, and it was my first time experiencing a traditional Japanese onsen ryokan. The tatami mats were interesting, and I slept well. The entire hotel felt like a museum; despite its age, it had a lot of character. I felt like I got a deeper understanding of Japanese culture, which I really appreciated. The service, apart from being led to our room with traditional Japanese bows and the room introduction, was mostly self-service. However, this was my first time staying at a 'one night, two meals' ryokan, so I'm not sure if all onsens are like this. We also didn't have large luggage, just our bags, so maybe that's why we didn't notice any issues with luggage service. On a positive note, the front desk immediately knew which pair of shoes were ours when we checked out, which was good service. On the downside, the room's air conditioning unit was so well hidden that it took ages to find, and I was cold for quite a while. The phone either didn't work or I couldn't figure out how to use it. Also, we booked the private onsen from 8 PM to 9:30 PM. After relaxing for a bit, it was already close to 11 or 12. The public onsen closed from 12 AM to 1 AM, so we couldn't use it. We needed about 8 or 9 hours of sleep, and breakfast was scheduled for 9 AM. After breakfast, from 9:30 AM to 11 AM, the public onsen was closed. When we asked, the front desk informed us that check-out was strictly at 11 AM and we couldn't use the public onsen after checking out. So, we missed out on the public onsen, which was a real shame and couldn't be negotiated. In any five-star hotel in any country I've traveled to, it's usually possible to discuss using facilities after check-out. But it seems traditional onsen ryokans are all this rigid. While that might be how Japanese people are, for a hotel of this price, and for clearly inexperienced foreigners (we were even reminded we wore our kimonos the wrong way), when asking about meal times, couldn't they have kindly informed us that we needed to plan our breakfast, dinner, and onsen times accordingly? The food was light and flavorful. I don't eat seafood, and they were able to adjust the meals to my preferences. Communication two months prior was very responsive. However, for us, it was a bit too plain; Japanese people would probably love it. This was my first trip with my husband after giving birth, and I had been looking forward to the onsen part for a long time. I was very happy on the check-in day, but not being able to use the public onsen on the second day was still a big regret.

The room has a very Japanese style, and the tatami mat was super comfortable to sleep on. I also really liked the decor, which was quiet and antique. The only thing lacking was the food; it really wasn't the best.
