Tampat do Aman

A group of us visited the camp for a couple of hours. We helped to prepare the vegetables for our meal and learnt lots from Lorrina about the vegetables and traditional Rungus meals. Howard told us about the reserve, the conservation projects, and also took us on a walk where we learnt about the different plants. It was great to see everything in its natural habitat. Howard, Lorrina and the team made us feel very welcome. The meal was delicious. It was a great experience.

Outstanding. Howard and his family are very welcoming hosts and extremely knowledgable about the local flora and fauna with their own mini nature reserve across the road from the camp. Sleep to the sounds of the jungles and awake to the golden sun. The beach is a short ride or a slightly longer walk and has good restaurants along it - the food is expensive at Tommy's and not as good as Annie’s, but if you want to use the broadband at Tommy’s you will need to buy a drink! A great spot and highly recommended.

I've been to this place for a couple of days, Howard is a great person and you can learn a lot from him, a different place from the usual tourist places! He also does survival courses for those who are interested! The place is located quite close to a beautiful beach, where you can decide whether to go to the China sea or the Sulu sea.

I stayed at Tampat Do Aman for 9 days and 9 nights as part of an Expedition with my school and it was probably the best week of my life. Firstly Howard (The owner) and his Wife are amazing, friendly hosts - Howard's wife knows how to make some decadently tasty cake! Throughout the week they never stopped smiling and were always kind and helpful. Although primitive, the facilities were spot on. Our accommodation was in a traditional Longhouse. Despite the vast temperatures, the rooms (with Electricity, Fans and built in Mosquito Nets) cooled down perfectly every night meaning that everyone slept exceptionally well. The Longhouse also had a fantastic seating area at the front where you could sit and play cards at night. The showers and compost toilets were also perfect for the jungle environment. Howard's place is located about a 30 minute walk away from the picturesque coastline which is truly beautiful. The food was always delicious and I truly miss it! The site was idyllic at night with various different spots to see the beautiful, unpolluted starry night skies glistening against the rainforest backdrop. Nature here was incredible with so many different species of fauna and flora to look out for. I certainly enjoyed the noises the Geckos make at night! Howard is truly knowledgeable about everything Rainforest/Rungus Tribe related and you could easily spend a day or two talking to him about the different species. At one point of the stay we also embarked upon a Jungle Trek for a couple of days staying overnight in Hammocks that we put up in the Jungle. This was a once in a lifetime experience. I want to thank Howard and His Wife (As well as lovely Daughters) for this superb experience. I could not recommend the site any more and for anyone considering visiting Borneo, go to the peak and experience Tampa Do Amen, it's a fantastic place to be.
