Ueki Onsen Ryokan Matsunoyu

The staff are incredibly friendly. The hot springs are top-notch. Private baths are available for private use, even late at night. The prices are reasonable. This is the kind of ryokan you'll want to explore on your own.

We stayed here for our 4-month-old daughter's first hot spring experience. It's not too far from the city or the airport if you're driving, so it's easy to get to. This time, we stayed in the luxury of the only special room. It's a spacious Japanese-Western style room, with a ceramic open-air bath and a rock bath, both of which are free-flowing from the source. And the quality of the hot spring is excellent. It's a sulfur spring with a not-too-strong scent, and the thick water feels really good. Each dish is elaborately prepared and the portions are plenty big. Not to mention the specialty horse sashimi and wagyu beef, the rice is also very delicious. There was also a hanging hammock sofa in the room, so we were able to relax like we were at a resort. There are some issues with not being able to use credit cards and being barrier-free, but I think it's worth it.
