Hiramatsu Kyoto is a very thoughtful homage to a traditional Japanese inn, carefully adapted for European and American travelers. It strikes a rare balance: highly traditional in spirit and aesthetics, yet genuinely comfortable in a modern, international sense.
This is not a classic ryokan experience. Instead, it offers true hotel-level comfort — large European-style beds, excellent in-room technology, and a beautifully designed, spacious room. The room itself is the hotel’s strongest asset: elegant, calm, and extremely comfortable. The bathroom deserves special mention — a wonderful bathtub and a well-executed fusion of European comfort with Japanese sensibility.
The building, dating back to the Meiji era, adds a unique historical layer and makes the stay feel special and slightly unconventional in a very good way. That said, the hotel is quite small, which is important to keep in mind. There are virtually no additional facilities — no gym, no spa, no extensive common areas — this is a boutique experience focused almost entirely on the room itself.
Breakfast is extremely minimalist and, to be honest, a bit disappointing given the overall level of the hotel. It doesn’t ruin the experience, but it does feel like a missed opportunity.
Overall, Hiramatsu Kyoto is a stylish, intimate, and well-executed fusion of Japanese tradition and Western comfort. A very pleasant place to stay if you value design, atmosphere, and a great room over hotel amenities. Recommended — with the right expectations.

The hotel lives up to its high standard. Excellent service. Interesting Japanese breakfasts, which we ordered separately.

The hotel had an authentique Japanese feel to it , very spacious rooms , kind staff , and perfect location ! If you are coming from Tokyo to get another feel of Japan then this must be the perfect location !
Being used to major hotels in Tokyo , this came as a contrast , it felt like a traditional home but with all the luxuries you need. I highly recommend

A fantastic hotel, with exceptionally friendly staff. The location and room quality are excellent value for Kyoto, comparable to hotels costing three times more. However, the hotel's attitude towards guests dragged it down (not the staff's service quality, but the hotel's overall attitude). For example, upon arrival, there was no welcome drink, no room gift, and no room/check-out time negotiation. Most offensively, the mini-bar was empty (though we didn't expect it to be free). At check-out, we were asked for our room key back, but were refused because it had a chip in it 😂. While I eventually got my key back, being refused for that reason was incredibly frustrating. It went beyond mere politeness; it felt deeply offensive. Nevertheless, these flaws don't overshadow the hotel's overall excellence; it's definitely worth recommending in Kyoto. Hopefully, the hotel will take guest feedback seriously.

Service: Excellent service. We received exceptional service for breakfast both nights. We opted for the English breakfast and also enjoyed hand-drip coffee. They carefully explained the ingredients for each dish.
Cleanliness: Excellent cleanliness. When we returned the next day, the room was spotless.
Environment: The interior landscape, reminiscent of a Japanese dry landscape garden, was beautiful from breakfast to the entrance, offering a unique charm.
Facilities: The facilities were up-to-date. The only downside was the bed was too soft.

The service is very good and the location is good. It is a very antique Japanese style, especially the breakfast. We chose Japanese style, which is very authentic. The concept of the hotel is great, especially the wooden bow, which is worth experiencing.

It's only a 3-minute walk from subway exit 4.1. The transportation is very convenient. The room, drinks and hygiene are very good. The service is also very good. I will come again next time. It's convenient everywhere.

Sharing my experience from a five-night stay, a reminder to all my Chinese friends: there are too many complaints, and the accommodations are completely unworthy of the high price. It's better to spend a few hundred more and stay at the Ritz-Carlton. Think twice before booking.
First, the room layout is poor, with poor soundproofing, which disrupts sleep. The air conditioner blows directly onto the bed, giving us both colds. If we turn it off, a strong musty smell emanates. The weirdest thing is that the entire bathroom has a loud echo, and even after changing rooms, the same effect persists. It's truly nerve-wracking. Customer service explained that "everyone's senses are different."
Second, the hotel offers only basic services. For example, if I wanted to exchange money, I had to go to a nearby hotel. During my several-day stay, I had to handle almost everything on my own. The hotel arranged for Chinese-speaking waiters from Taiwan, thinking they cared about Chinese customers, but it felt off. The service was completely inadequate. We booked a Japanese restaurant through the hotel, but both of us got sick from the air conditioning. We contacted the Chinese customer service to discuss rescheduling and to find a restaurant offering light tofu soup. The customer service representative basically threatened us, saying, "You have to go, otherwise the restaurant will charge the hotel, and we won't pay." We went back to our room to think it over and called back, saying they'd try their best to help us coordinate. We were already feeling unwell from the air conditioning in our room, and we caught a cold. Ultimately, we went to the restaurant despite our agreement, and from start to finish, the customer service representative simply urged us to go and pay for the restaurant, offered no help in researching the light menu, and showed no concern or desire for improvement. This hotel's desperation to squeeze in as much profit as possible seems to be its guiding principle.
Third, the check-out standard is 11:00 PM. We called to check out at 12:00 PM, and the customer service representative replied, "I'll ask, and they can check at 12:00 PM. It's free, but every minute beyond that will be charged." It's laughable. As a customer spending over 25,000 RMB, is this the same attitude they still receive?
It was off-peak season, and the hotel wasn't crowded. The ********* customer service representative appeared friendly but was unhelpful, and the Japanese manager was cold and had poor English. For guests staying for multiple days, various situations are likely to arise. I don't recommend this hotel for those who want a peaceful and relaxing stay.

The service was very good. My family member was sick and the hotel brought breakfast to the room separately. They also helped me find a clinic. Although I didn't have a good experience because of the illness, it was still very good. It's also nice to go around.
