Overall a pleasant stay at Ranzan Hotel. The hotel was clean throughout and the location is excellent if you want somewhere peaceful and relaxing in Arashiyama. The front desk staff were especially helpful and friendly. They accommodated a room change quickly and without any issues, which was appreciated. The hotel itself does feel a bit outdated in terms of decor and interiors, so don’t expect a modern luxury feel. One strange downside was that classical music was being played in the hallway outside the rooms until around 11pm, which felt unnecessary when guests are trying to sleep. After calling reception they turned it off immediately, so credit to the staff for handling it well. One thing missing was a coffee shop or bar inside the hotel. For a hotel in such a calm setting, that would have added a lot to the experience. Overall, a good and comfortable stay mainly thanks to the cleanliness, peaceful location, and very helpful staff.

The environment is elegant, and the service is warm, polite, and unobtrusive. The courtyard is peaceful, and the breakfast is very Japanese. There's also a large public bath. They were very upfront that it's not hot spring water, but after a day of walking, a soak is still very relaxing. There are many hot springs nearby. Arashiyama is a bit out of the way; most restaurants close after 7 PM. If you arrive late, it's best to eat at Kyoto Station first or buy some instant noodles. The nearest 7/11 and FamilyMart are also a 10-minute walk away.

This hotel’s location is truly ideal for exploring the area. While the facilities have a nostalgic, slightly dated feel, they are exceptionally clean and well-kept. The hotel does a wonderful job of preserving its traditional cultural atmosphere. A standout was the Japanese breakfast—it was not only delicious but also served with a strong sense of ritual, making each morning feel special and authentic. The most memorable feature, however, was the private garden. During this season, it was exceptionally serene and beautiful, like a living painting that invites you to immerse yourself in its peace. I highly recommend staying here for a unique and culturally rich experience.

Great location for easy tourist traps. Very crowded of tourist from all parts of the world. Very scenic area, very close to the bamboo forest. Cafe Takahashi around the corner would be my go to place to have good food.

Hotel is in exciting location for living and walking around. Fabulous river. Cozy hotel. A little bit retro but stylish. Friendly staff. Very quiet and cleam room. Everyday cleaning was excellent. Interesting Japanese breakfast. Tasty strong coffee. Matres and pillow were too hard for me.
