I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights as part of a trip with GAdventures booked through trail finders in the UK. We were checked in to what I think must have been the worst room in the hotel. It was at the back and over looked a side alley. We quickly showered and went to meet our group for dinner. When we got back, we noticed this god- damn awful smell which was coming from the drains and the water hadn't drained from our shower a few hrs earlier. Drains are notoriously bad across CR. We went to reception and the guy couldn't have cared less. We insisted he come and smell for himself. Well, he just couldn't have been more patronising or belittling. He said he couldn't smell it, he accused us of 'just showering' when we showed him the water and refused to do anything ie is clear the smell or move us. He said quite clearly numerous times, the hotel was full. We were left with no choice than to contact our Rep. Strangley enough we were given a different and much better room immediately. When we left, a lady came to our bus, thanked us for our custom and said they are a family run hotel. Clearly explained why the chap on reception couldn't give a hoot - he was hardly going to be sacked! Young ish guy, curly hair tied back in a pony tail. Poor Ester who came to say goodbye has no idea. He best things about this hotel are the friendly staff in the bar below, the view of the volcano from the terrace, and its only a shirt walk from the best place to eat in town- the rainforest cafe opposite (and Andreas is the best server!) but apart from that, I'd avoid it at all costs

If you want a local experience this is it. Friendly staff clean rooms-not fancy. Cool layout with balconies. Downside is it is on a main thoroughfare and really loud. the motorcycles come by at all hours. to be fair, this probably true of all hotels in the main square area. Bring earplugs.

If you are looking for a five-star hotel with all the amenities, this is not your hotel. But if you are looking for a quaint, well-run hotel that is in the heart that all La Fortuna and the surrounding area has to offer, this is a great experience. I say "experience" instead of "property" because Los Colina's is more than the sum of it's parts. THE GOOD: Great service; perfect location; and a laid-back vibe that is reminiscent of the 60's. You are close to all the area has to offer. There are three floors; the second is a primarly open viewing platform outfitted with tables, chairs, sofas, places to play cards or chess, and a view of the volcano that only a helicopter ride could provide. The other guests were friendly, adding to the vibe. If I was in my 20's or 30's, OR an aging European "Hippie," I would never want to leave. THE NOT SO GOOD: If you are looking for amenities that have become standard in most hotels, some are missing here. It is a three-story hotel, and there is no elevator (the front clerk carried my heavy luggage up the stairs); I was in suite 311, with air conditioning - most rooms have fans for cooling. And my bathroom, although spotlessly clean, looked like it needed to be refurbished for a few decades. Everything worked, it was just old. Summary: If you are looking for the Ritz, or even a Holiday Inn, this ain't it. But if you wish to blend in with the post-60's crowed, and be surrounded with very friendly guests and excellent staff, come here.

Fine. Maybe two steps above a youth hostel. I don’t know how it is rated as a three star hotel. The staff is nice, it’s clean enough but the accommodations aren’t “nice.” Beds are uncomfortable and there’s no blanket. It is conveniently located but don’t expect what I thought would be basics of a three star hotel.

I arrived on a tour with a badly injured foot. The staff were absolutely wonderful from the moment we arrived. They got our room ready early, arranged a table outside the room that we could eat at, helped me walk when needed and even offered me a support boot left by a previous punter. They let us use their phone and found us a spare tour room when we couldn’t continue our trip. The rooms are basic but had air con and good Wi-Fi. Very central and convenient for la fortuna. Food was reasonable too

My stay at the Las Colinas hotel was very comfortable and safe. I stayed 4 nights and found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Any questions or special requests I had they did whatever they could to support me. The restaurant was very accommodating to my gluten allergy, which was a great relief. The street noise is quite loud during the day but gets quiet around 10 pm. Common areas were being upgraded while I was there, which was nice to see the inves**ent in the property. I would stay again, the location was great to see the highlights of La Fortuna!

Basic hotel. Tired dated decor. Tiny rooms. Barely enough room to unpack your case. Grotty tiny bathrooms. Very noisy communal area, sound proofing in the room is awful, so you hear all conversations. Upside, room is clean. Most rooms have a view of volcano (if weather allows) and it is situated in the centre of the town.
