The Shoal Hotel la Jolla Beach

Absolutely great location (very close to the beach). The room is clean and the bathroom is nicely renovated. The reception staffs are always friendly and helpful. I would come back next time.

We had a nice stay at the Shoal Hotel on this our second stay. The location is good for a walk around La Jolla. We stayed over 4 days but unfortunately the stay was marred by the guest that stayed above our room. This person had a habit of shifting a suitcase or furniture on the floor above our room when we were trying to get some sleep. This happened on a second night between 2am and 4am which was particularly annoying. We understood that the reception was manned 24/7 but never found anybody in the reception area. When we mentioned this the next morning were told there was a phone number to call for 24/7 service of which we were unaware. Other travellers would be advised to check the hotel out of hours contact details unless they encounter the same experience as us. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay and the local amenities.

The bed was way too soft and there was no real blanket cover. The water pressure in the shower was too low and our room had basicely no daylight because it was in a sort of tunnel. The location and the staff were very good though.

Cute little hotel, with an awesome location. Needs a little bit of upkeep inside the rooms as they are starting to look a little worn… Love that they let you use chairs and towels for the nearby beach. Staff was friendly and helpful with making recommendations for restaurants, pool needs cleaning… And overall a great stay

This is a great location up the street from the Windansea surf spot with a good coffee shop next door and 5 minutes from the center of La Jolla
