El Retiro del Obispo

Truly wonderful accommodation. Old world charm, in a truly sympathetically restored ancient building, with beautifully appointed rustic rooms each with a lovely bathroom. A small communal terrace on the roof has amazing views over the Rioja region. There is a small superbly equipped kitchen for all to use adjoining the terrace. The hostess/owner is utterly charming with super advice on what to do and where. Pretty much outstanding.

This is the place to stay in Laguardia. The rooms are beautifully appointed to match this ancient town. A big bonus is the shared kitchen on the top floor where you can cook your own breakfast while taking in an incredible view of the countryside. However the top reason for choosing this hotel is the owner, Terri. Due to several circumstances, my wife and I arrived in a tattered state. Terri instantly recognized that we needed some extra attention and took us under her wing. The comfort, care and support she provided rescued our seemingly doomed trip. It is a great place to stay with amazing owners.

El Retiro del Obispo is a paradise in the middle of La Rioja area. If you love wine, good food, good people, this is the place to stay. Easy parking next door. The town is very small, you can walk it in 5 mins but on the other end, my G-d, the view is breathtaking. Terri, the owner is just exceptional. We went and unfortunately our little girl was sick and she was nothing but excellent. Very understanding, accommodating, helping us. El Retiro del Obispo is the place to stay.

We loved El Retiro del Obispo so much we extended our stay. The location in Laguardia is perfect—in a quiet corner but a two minute walk to everything you need. The room was spacious and clean with incredible historic features. There is a shared kitchen and rooftop terrace with gorgeous views of the surrounding vineyards. The perfect place for an afternoon glass of local wine. What really made our stay 10/10 was the owner’s hospitality. Terri and Robert greeted us at check in, gave us recommendations for food and wine (all of which were incredible!) and made restaurant and wine tour reservations for us. Laguardia is a gem and we highly recommend El Retiro del Obispo!

This place has the best view in town. We loved our morning coffee’s in the kitchen patio. The hotel is beautiful, historic with lots of light. It is clean, comfortable and nicely maintained. We would love to come back for a longer stay.

If there is availability, book now! This is a must book! The location is perfectly situated in Laguardia, on a quiet end but two minute walk to everything you need. Terri and Robert were incredible hosts—from recommendations to booking wine tours and dinner reservations for us. Everything we did that they recommended was wonderful. Fabulous wine tours in the underground cellars beneath the city. Delicious food—everything from light pintxos to multi-course meals. Laguardia is very picturesque and the perfect getaway. We hope to visit again soon!

Charming and Cozy Inn Terri was an exceptional host! Not only did she provide us with great recommendations for things to do and places to eat, she took care of making all the reservations for us! El Retiro is a very charming and cozy Inn. Our room was exceptionally clean and the bed very comfortable. We also appreciated the communal kitchen and terrace on the top floor.

Stayed 2 nights, excellent location, great host, unique city. Don't be concerned about the parking, it is much easier than it seems. Plenty of restaurants and bars in the Old City so you don't need to worry about driving anywhere for dinner. No elevator so be aware if you are staying on a top floor, but its definitely worth the climb.
