Haka House Hostel Lake Tekapo

The hostel is conveniently located just a minute's walk from the bus stop. It's also right next to the Dark Sky Project, which is great for those joining the night tours. You're greeted by a beautiful lake right in front, and there's a supermarket about a 5-minute walk away, which is very handy. Many guests make use of the kitchen facilities to cook meals with ingredients bought from the supermarket. Drinking water is freely available from a dispenser. Upstairs from the kitchen, there's a lounge area with a billiard table and board games. I stayed in a 4-bed female dorm, but there were only two of us, including myself. While there are lockers in the room, they don't come with keys, so it's a good idea to bring your own padlock if you need one. Towels and other essentials are available for rent, so you won't be in a pinch, but if you prefer to save money, you'll need to bring your own. Hair dryers are free to use. The shower pressure was good, and there was plenty of hot water. The room was warm and comfortable. I would definitely consider staying here again on my next visit to Tekapo.

The location is fantastic, right on Lake Tekapo. The environment is also super comfortable, and the kitchen and fridge on the ground floor are spacious. The accommodation itself is great too, with private bathrooms – a significant step up from hostels in Queenstown and Christchurch.

The location is fantastic! The view from the kitchen was absolutely stunning. The facilities were clean and comfortable. Check-in was also very easy.

The hotel is located right by the lake, so you can take a leisurely stroll around the nearby attractions at any time, which is really pleasant. It has a very spacious kitchen with all the cooking utensils you could need, making it super convenient to prepare your own meals.

This hostel was very clean and comfortable. The common areas and kitchen were also spotless and well-equipped, making even a stay in the dormitory very pleasant. Most importantly, the location was superb, with Lake Tekapo right in front of you. It was convenient not only for enjoying the daytime scenery but also for going out stargazing. The staff were also very helpful, making it a safe place to stay even for solo travelers. If I come to Tekapo again, I would definitely want to stay here!

Being right by the lake was fantastic, allowing easy strolls along the shore in the evenings or early mornings. The male front desk staff was also incredibly friendly.

This is a youth hostel with a self-service concept. It has a kitchen and a refrigerator, so you can buy ingredients from the supermarket and cook your own meals. There are recreational facilities on the second floor. The rooms have heating, which is very comfortable and helps to alleviate travel fatigue.
