Attended a family wedding and stayed in the princess suite. The room was very spacious. We were impressed with the feather duvet and pillows and enjoyed a fabulous nights sleep. If I was to be critical it would be the bathroom which had a poor electric shower. Breakfast was of a very high standard with every possible option catered for.

Mitton hall is a beautiful building, but on going in for a bit of lunch and a drink is different matter, the young bar man found only serve soft drinks as he was not old enough,he was already on with a tray of drinks which he had to deliver, which he did he then came back to the bar to tell us he could not serve us so he went looking for someone, all this time two members of staff where talking at reception with also a member of staff on the computer,my husband then said we are leaving, such a pity as l said before beautiful building also my husband used to work there, much a shame Nita Knowles

We have just returned from another overnight Dinner Bed and Breakfast stay with friends at Mitton Hall, Whalley. This has to be our favourite hotel stay in the UK. As soon as we walked into the building we were greeted like old friends by Victoria on the reception desk who made us feel so welcome. Her warm and professional attitude makes her a real asset to the hotel. Nothing was too much trouble for her. Anyone who enters is immediately awe struck by the amazingly preserved Tudor hall with its blazing log fires and candlelit interiors throughout the year. Tea or pre-dinner drinks by the large open fire is always something to look forward to. We feel that some of the negative criticisms by other contributors have been unfair and blown out of proportion.

Magnificent place. So what was good - the location, the ambience, the building which is superband worth wandering about if you visit and the staff who are brilliant. My visit was a Jamess place offer and the food menu for dinner was more limited and that is what is expected especially if you are taking advantage of a brilliant offer. Having said that, what was on offer was only limited and not by obvious quality. The whole stay in every way was brilliant and look forward to future visits.

We booked Afternoon Tea at Mitton Hall to celebrate a friends birthday. The food was well presented and very tasty. Amazing Chocolate cake and superb scones accompanied by a varied selection of sandwiches, mini Lemon Meringue and Orange Macaroon. The service was exemplary. Thank you to Frankie who looked after us so well. A very pleasant helpful young man who was a great ambassador for Mitton Hall.

Our daughter had surprised us with an extravagant gift of an afternoon champagne tea at the prestigious Milton Hall in the stunning Ribble Valley. We were thrilled and eagerly anticipated indulging in the elegant atmosphere and delicious treats, especially at the cost of £70. However, upon arrival, our excitement quickly turned to disappointment as we found the food and atmosphere to be of extremely poor quality. The finger sandwiches, which included basic ham, stringy beef, and tasteless salmon, were slightly stale and lacked any flavour, the food was clearly from a budget brand. Additionally, the atmosphere was far from the luxurious experience we were expecting, it was gloomy and dismal & needs updating. Overall, the experience did not meet our expectations and fell short of the high four star standard advertised on their website.

Recently did an overnight stay at Mitton Hall, initially booked as we were attending a wedding locally which sadly was cancelled, but as we had already paid for the room, decided to go anyway. First impressions were a beautiful building, plenty parking in a nice location. An unmanned reception left us in some doubt as to what to do next. Eventually welcomed by a very matter of fact male receptionist. Our room ( in total contrast to the 17th century building) was very small and decorated with plastic and glass furniture giving a cheap and less than classy room completely out of keeping with the rest of the beautiful building. Also showing signs of damp and plenty spiders cobwebs. Despite the radiator being turned off, the room fan on full and the small windows opened the heat in the room was overbearing and prevented both having a good nights sleep. Now for the good: we ate in the restaurant and the food was fabulous- hats off to the chef who made the best cheese fondue I’ve ever tasted and the hugest salmon en croute we ve seen!! Can’t comment on dessert as couldn’t fit one in! Breakfast also really good with quality ingredients - in fact so good we called at the butchers on our way home to buy their sausages!!! All the staff we met following check in were friendly, attentive and accommodating. However, in spite of the staffs hard work and commitment obviously this hotel is visibly understaffed and appears to be balancing on a precipice. We would return for their food but not their standard bedrooms -

Christmas Day dinner was charged at £125 a head and was utterly dreadful. Never every again! We did not complain on the day as another family were complaining to the female restaurant manager in reception and she was not providing them with a particularly professional or sympathetic response ('you should have told me during the meal so I could put it right'). You can understand that people will not likely complain during a meal because they are afraid about what may happen to the rest of their food if they do. In summary, We had to chase what time the meal was at as this had never been confirmed in any booking. The starter, braised pork cheek was freezing cold on arrival, yet we had waiting until 2:30pm for it to arrive (despite being told that we would dine at 1:30pm). The main did not arrive for over a further hour until 3:40pm - the main meal was lukewarm. We did not even stay for the deserts as given the timings above it would have been likely that these would not have been served for a further hour, and it would have been 5pm by the time we had them and could leave. A four hour duration for a 3 course meal is not acceptable. Many staff were stood around outside the kitchen door throughout when there were plenty of tables to clear. A member of the bar team asked us when the mains had been served if we wanted further drinks. I asked for our table water to be replenished and was told 'I don't do that, another member of staff will do it for you'. A bar member who cannot serve water but was quite happy to take money for more drinks. Even the singer had finished and left by the time the mains were served and asked everyone to give the staff a round of applause - I found this very patronising given you could tell people were utterly fed up of waiting by the number of people in the room sat on their mobile phones. The level of service is unthinkable for a hotel that is used to catering for significant numbers of guests at weddings and this should have been executed well in comparison to other venues. I wrote to complain afterwards, didn't bother to reply. My advice, avoid, avoid, avoid!

On my wife's birthday we went to Mitton Hall for afternoon tea. The dining room is really pleasant and relaxing . The staff were attentive throughout and the food , a selection of sandwiches , pastries , cakes etc were first class. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.
