Hotel Porto Santo & Spa

I really enjoyed this hotel. You can tell in its day it was the place to be! Today this hotel competes with these all-inclusive resorts, that seem shiny, but to me are not worth my dime. I would rather put my money into a small business owner’s pocket than some Hilton or Kardashian. Anyways, the hotel has the best location on the island. It’s on the most beautiful beach. It has a small bar that you can order food and even champagne, one step to the sand. - The spa is beautiful and I disagree that it should be free for guests, as another customer pointed out, because it helps keep the area more private. - The breakfasts are good, but adding fresh squeezed juice would make a huge difference. It was lovely to sit outside every morning and enjoy the scenery and fresh air. - there is an outdoor pool with lounge chairs and it’s nice and relaxing, nothing over the top. - the rooms are dated, but comfortable and my husband and I spend all our time outdoors. - the staff were incredible! Nothing was too much for them. The receptionist called a car to take us to the airport and I left my Chanel scarf in the car (it was my mother’s so it has meaning). The hotel receptionist handled all of it for me. He contacted the driver, had it brought to the hotel and he shipped it to Berlin. I received my beautiful scarf! 🙏 I am so grateful for people and hotels like this. This hotel holds a sweet spot for me. Please support this hotel ❤️.

Reception needs updating Facilities & staff very good

Overall I feel this is a decent hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful overall, the room (refurbished) was comfortable with a nice enough view. The hotel's design is quite stylish, though the fascias as you come into the drive could be modernised. Rooms are cleaned efficiently each day. The pool area has strange green carpet on one side which has seen better days. The spa looked more luxurious. My biggest gripe is with the breakfasts. The coffee in all its forms was awful. Why do hotels insist on installing machines that make awful coffee? Similarly there was no decent fruit juice unless you wanted to pay €5 for the privilege. The quality of the breakfast ingredients was questionable. The bacon was very strange - like bad vegan bacon in flavouring - and inedible. The eggs were often cold. The hash browns were just weird. The continental breakfast ingredients were better but overall I did not enjoy the breakfasts at all. If the hotel invested in decent coffee and breakfast ingredients I would think about returning. As things stand I probably wouldn't. There is a beach bar connected to the hotel that does good food but it wasn't always open over Christmas. The restaurant food is ok but there are several other restaurants nearby. The hotel is well placed midway along the very long beach and there is a small shopping centre and patisserie only a small walk away.

We are about to leave after five nights at this iconic 60’s hotel. This is the first hotel in Porto Santo and the position is perfect on the most beautiful 9km golden sandy beach with aqua blue Atlantic Ocean. The staff and food at the hotel are 10/10., as is the beach bar. The beautifully built two story hotel has beautiful grounds and large windows and glass doors all around the main facade. Previous reviewers have mentioned lack of somewhere to rinse feet and swimwear,… there are showers by the pool and rinsing station at beach bar toilets. My two points of criticism are the standard of furnishing in the rooms. They have been refurbished cheaply, they are cleaned beautifully everyday by attentive staff. The infinity pool is a pleasure to swim in and a beautiful design, however the sun lounger cushions are in need of replacement or a steam clean. We would come back in a heartbeat. Porto Santo is a beautiful island of only 5000 inhabitants and safe and was easy to get around by bus and taxi.
