Hillman International Hotel

The owner is very welcoming and helpful. Not only did staff pick us up from the airport , but also dropped us at the high speed train station and washed our clothes. The beds were very comfortable and a nice view from the hotel room. The only downside is the location as it’s located quite far from the old town and the river . However the owner can help to rent scooters.

I booked a deluxe king bedroom from 18 to 22 Dec (4 nights) and a deluxe king bedroom from 28 to 29 Dec (1 night). I am a Trip platinum member and a Level 8 contributor on Google. On the 1st stay 18 to 22 Dec, I was very pleased with the deluxe king bedroom. It has a separate living area with a dining table and a sofa. There's a separate bedroom with a huge panel TV. I was in room 9108. However, on the 2nd stay for 1 night, the manager, Mr Wang, met me personally at the reception, brought me to my room, 8209. To my horror, it doesn't look deluxe at all. It looks old, dated and smells of cigarettes. I asked Mr Wang if that was the right room. He said that previously I stayed 4 nights and I had the deluxe room, and now, I am staying 1 night. I told him that I paid for the deluxe king bedroom and had a confirmation from him by email. He avoided the topic and said there was a balcony. This is so unprofessional. I raised this with Trip.com, sent them the photos and they are launching an investigation. Firstly, this room does not have a separate living area with a dining table. It's definitely not more than 30 square metres. The bathroom looks so mouldy as you can see in the photos. Theris NOTHING DELUXE about it. The whole room smells of cigarettes. The sound insulation is very poor. I could hear loud noises from the Chinese tourist groups. I requested for an airport drop off at 7:30 am, and Mr Wang said their driver only starts work after 8 am. Therefore, be aware of the hidden clauses that are not apparent. 我28号顶的是毫华房间，王先生你却分配给我标准房间。你说我只住一夜。管建是我在携程顶的是毫华房间。你这种行为，客户会性任你吗？本来，我想推荐你的酒店给国内的朋友。经过这个事件之后，我再也不要推荐你的酒店。

There was an offer for this hotel in Luang Prabang. I was impressed with the size of the deluxe room which has a separate living area. There's an air filtering system in the living room which is powerful; ideal if you are in Luang Prabang during the hot months of March, April. This hotel caters mostly to tour groups from China, therefore the labels in the room are in Chinese. For the shower area, turning the tap to the right is for hot water; left, for cold water. You need to run the shower head first to start the hot water flowing. I also like the fly screens in the windows which allow me to let fresh air in. Just make sure that no one is smoking nearby. The mattress and pillows are top quality. The TV is super big and there are both free programmes and paid channels. However, these are all in Mandarin. I paid an extra $1 per night to include the breakfast. There is a wide selection of Chinese cuisine. There's no butter, jam or honey to accompany the toasted bread. It can get very busy during breakfast and it's advisable to come down early at 7 am, when they start the service. The front staff is fantastic. There's free pick-up and drop-off service at airports and train station. The manager is super-communicative. He answered all my enquiries. Although the location is out from the central area, it only takes 30 mins to walk to the city centre. At night, I would use Loca (like Grab) to return back to the hotel. It costs between 65k to 100k KIP.
