We booked afternoon tea here after a long morning of walking. Lovely restaurant, and because it was a sunny day all the doors were open. Not too busy when we arrived and ordered our drinks and then not long after the afternoon tea was brought out for us. Everything looked good, but no-one told us anything about what we were eating. I took apart a few of the sandwiches to see what was in them and still couldn't work it out! Eventually I had to ask someone what was in them but they should really inform you when they bring the food out (or give you a sheet which says what everything is) The sandwiches were ok. Some of the bread was very dry and hard. I suspect they had been pre-made a long time before and left out. The scones were really good. Big, and had a good texture so they didn't fall apart whilst preparing them, and had a really good strong flavour of cinnamon. Although the cashew cream tasted good, it had a very airy texture so not really like 'proper' cream. The desserts were nice, but again we had no idea what they actually were, at I didn't want to call someone over to ask what they were as we took them away in a box to eat later. There was an issue with the bill as they had added my latte and my wife's soft drink on as well. When we originally ordered the drinks I asked if I could have a latte instead of tea, and my wife was told she could have a soft drink instead, and at that point we were not informed that it would cost extra. However, they agreed that the latte definitely should have been included, but not the soft drink. After I said that we were not told when we ordered it that it would cost extra they did agree to refund but when customer ordering afternoon tea ask if they could swap the tea with something else they should be very clear about whether this costs extra or not. Overall we did have a good meal and apart from the bill issues, the service from all the staff was very good. The price for the afternoon tea was cheaper than other places we've been to. Might be a personal preference of ours, but we do like to know what we are eating so some more communication is required. Not sure we'd come back for afternoon tea but maybe for a Sunday roast next time (as we saw some go past us which did look very nice)
