The location is amazing, right in the centre of Manchester. The hotel looks great from the outside, the lobby is very grand. It has a great bar - Rogue bar. However, our room was not very clean. There was hair on the floor. The bathroom was not nice at all. The shower floor was dirty, and it had not had a deep clean. The service in the hotel was okay, nothing extraordinary. I wouldn’t return overall for the money.

Really good design and decoration of the hotel. The location is really nice close to train station. Good value for this price.

Among the worst hotel experiences I’ve endured in over 30 years of travel. The “twin executive” room was dated and uninviting. The single-glazed window, which gave onto one of the busiest streets in Manchester, wouldn’t close fully but neither would it open. Check-in was more like a military registration with notices demanding photo ID (on pain of refused entry) that wasn’t mentioned when booking. Re-entry at night was subject to showing the key card to a rude security guard. There was no room service and not even the option of room cleaning. For this dreadful offering, I was charged over £160 per night without breakfast. Never again.

The room we got was larger than what we booked, which was a pleasant surprise. However, the breakfast selection was a bit limited, and the hotel itself feels quite old. It even took me a while to figure out how to turn on the shower.

Great place for a short stop. 5 minutes to Piccadilly, 15 minutes to Victoria. But you can hear the neighbors' footsteps very loudly.

It was a very poor experience for our stay with Britannia Hotel. The only point for choosing this location was central location.
However, due to windows are single glazed, noise from the central part of Manchester are throughout the whole night. You can hear conversations from everyone in hotel and outside of hotel all night long hence unable to sleep.
Very heavy door so everytime someone shut their door it shook the whole floor.
There is no ceiling light, only desk lamp.
Separate hot and cold water taps. Toiletries only 1 tiny soap.
Overall, it was a terrible experience in this hotel for GBP 150 a night.

Britannia Hotel Manchester has an undeniably grand, old-world charm—but it shows its age in ways both atmospheric and inconvenient. The lobby’s sweeping staircase and chandeliers hint at past glory, and the central location is excellent for shopping, trains, and nightlife. However, that vintage character often slips into dated and tired. Rooms vary widely: some are spacious, others cramped; décor can feel worn, with scuffed furnishings and thin walls. Cleanliness is generally acceptable but inconsistent. Bathrooms work, though water pressure and temperature can fluctuate. Service is hit-or-miss—some staff are friendly and efficient, others seem overwhelmed during busy periods. Noise from corridors and nearby bars can be an issue, so light sleepers should request interior rooms or bring earplugs. For the price, it’s a functional base in the city center with nostalgic charm, provided your expectations are modest and you value location over modern comforts. Potential, but in need of refresh.

I genuinely believe this hotel offers the best value for money in Manchester. I've traveled to Manchester from London over 20 times, and I've stayed here at least 10 of those times. It's just so incredibly cheap; what more can you say when you're paying around £30 on a weekday or even a match day? The location is great too. The only downside is that the facilities are a bit dated, so I always make sure to bring my own toiletries when I stay.

It's an old building, and the architecture inside is a bit complex and winding, but there's an elevator. The staff were quite friendly. However, staying in a windowless room felt a bit oppressive and stuffy. It's very close to Chinatown and other attractions.

Although the room facilities are a bit old, they are clean. The entire building has a historic feel to it. Plus, the location is excellent – it's not far from the University of Manchester, the train station, and the shopping street, making it very convenient for getting around.

The hotel is in the city center, making it very convenient to get around. It's close to Piccadilly Station, and there are many convenience stores nearby, which is handy for picking up essentials. The hotel is a bit older, so the facilities are a little dated, but being able to store luggage there is a real peace of mind.
