InterContinental Hotels MARSEILLE - HOTEL DIEU by IHG

The hotel proactively upgraded our room. After we checked in and stored our luggage, we went out for some shopping. When we returned, the front desk staff had changed shifts, and they told us they couldn't find our reservation in the system. I broke out in a cold sweat! We explained that we had already checked in and our luggage was stored there. Fortunately, an experienced staff member nearby opened a drawer, pulled out our room key, and informed us that our room had been upgraded.

Excellent! The hotel is housed in a grand old building that has been meticulously renovated. The front desk and parking attendants provided great service. When I was having a beer at the restaurant, I asked a staff member about Bouillabaisse, and a short while later, they brought me a note with three nearby restaurant recommendations. As soon as you drive up to the lobby, staff members are there to take care of parking and other services. The location is fantastic, directly facing the Old Port and just across the square.

The location is quite convenient, right by the old port. But it's also a bit scary. Marseille's Old Town is practically ruled by black people. The service was pretty average, rather indifferent. They claim to offer hot chocolate and milk refills daily, but when you ask for it, you either get hot chocolate and water or milk and water. The pool is terribly small! And what's with needing a reservation? But for under 3000 a night, it's manageable, I guess. I won't be coming back to Marseille in the future. It feels dangerous. I even hired a local driver, and he was terrified, not daring to leave his car parked in the Old Town for fear of his windows being smashed.

The room offers a great view, and it's about a 10-minute walk to the port. Getting to the airport takes around 25-30 minutes by car, but parking comes with a fee.

The hotel's style is great, and the service is excellent, maintaining the standard one would expect from an InterContinental. The room's cleanliness was good, and the breakfast variety and taste were decent. Overall, I'm very satisfied.
