Our stay at Matamanoa Island Resort was outstanding. The staff are amazing and so are the facilities. The beachfront rooms were a great size and the private pool was a great addition - we used it every day. Be sure to hire the free snorkels during your stay to explore the beautiful coral and fish that are just metres from shore. I can’t wait to come back and couldn’t recommend this stay more.

Matamanoa Island was the highlight of our 2 week Fiji trip. Thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay on the Island - this was the true Fiji you dream of, warm/hot weather, blue skies, sunshine, lapping clear blue ocean, snorkelling off the beach, beautiful infinity swimming pool, relaxing meals & comfortable accommodation along with friendly staff. Great overall resort experience & enjoyed the relaxing evening entertainment, staff singing/guitars & serenade singing as well as knife throwing/dancing & fire show. The restaurant is only one which some may find a little restrictive but after travelling around Viti Levu & other resorts for 10 days prior, not havibng to choose or decide where to go to eat was actually kinda nice. Breakfasts were American style, fruit & pastries/choices of cereal/starters & then cooked options of egg styles & fish - we ate a lot of fish !! All brought to your table & included in room rate. Great substantial breakfast, making you feel very lazy for the rest of the day. We did some snorkelling of beach (I stayed close to shore) but hubby went out further to reef & saw some big fish/starfish etc. We took out the hobbycat briefly one afternoon, would liked to have had time to do again. Took the guided snorkelling trip one afternoon - with 20 of us / 2-3 guides. Out to deeper reef...I was very nervous but stayed close to hubby & guide & after a while really relaxed & thoroughly enjoyed - really recommend this little trip. A friend from NZ who had just been, also recommended this trip. Others on island were doing the Village trip to another island but we just ran out of time & had seen quite a few villages on Viti Levu. I could have easily stayed 5-7 nights - was just really wound down & just loved it.

Unfortunately, the food was not good. There have been a number of reviews that have expressed dissatisfaction with the food and I'm not sure why the management hasn't addressed this. How hard is it to make fresh and tasty food? On a positive note the setting is idyllic, great snorkeling too.

My wife and I were on our honeymoon in Fiji, and it was regrettable that our honeymoon had been ruined, to say the least, by our experience at Matamanoa resort. We both developed a severe rash over our four limbs after bedbug bites, it has been one months and the marks are still there. On the first night of our stay, we already experienced itchiness, but we thought these were due to mosquito bites. On the second night, at around 0230, our rash got much worse and we couldn’t sleep due to the itchiness and pain. We then searched our bedsheet and found a couple of bedbugs, which were clearly the cause of our rash. We immediately rushed out to the reception, but sadly nobody was on duty. We stayed up all night and finally was able to speak to your staff at the reception at 0700. Though it was not until 0745 that a general manager, finally showed up to deal with this case. We then verbally agreed to have full refund and leave the island one day earlier. Con: - This is not a 4 star hotel definitely. Room is poor and worn down ( and have bedbugs) - Food is basic and small portion but expensive - Hygiene level not up to standard ( I saw a big mouse running in the bar, and cockroach outside my room ) - Nobody (not even a security guard) on night duty so no one will deal with the emergency. - Inattentive service and fail to restock towel in room Pro: - Full refunded after negotiation

The location of the hotel was breathtaking everything was so green the ocean was clean and the most beautiful blue color imaginable. We were greeted by the staff on the beach when we arrived the staff was extremely happy kind and caring, they treat you wonderfully. There are a few drawbacks the is not much to do for entertainment there are no televisions If you want Wi-Fi in your room that is an additional charge and there are no telephones in the rooms either so if you need anything you have to walk to the office first it. There is only one restaurant on the island and the food is not very good. But if you are going for a new experience the hotel is very nice. They do have a spa and a dive shop where you can book excursions. The people are what make this resort special.

The 1 and only restaurant on this island resort serves up a very limited selection of choices for lunch. Taste is average but price is on high side and portion is small. During our stay our money was stolen from our bags in the room. The reef was not that pretty as the pictures you see advertised, corals were all brownish. Pool is also very small. Bure wifi is very expensive, only free wifi is in the restaurant

The room is old, but cleaned well. There is basically no service, everyone is slow, it takes at least half an hour from ordering to serving, the most efficient person is probably the front desk staff who collects the money. The food is expensive and unpalatable, everything on the menu is unpalatable, don't doubt it. The natural environment is very good, the sea is beautiful, you can see a lot of fish and corals when snorkeling, and you can also see sharks

The room facilities are OK, but the rooms far from the lobby are a bit scary at night. I stayed for four nights in total, but it was too boring. I met several couples who felt the same way. The consumption is also expensive. The Fijian water sold in the supermarket on the main island is less than 4 Fijian dollars, and it is sold at the hotel for 11 Fijian dollars (the same). The food is not good. I think the main island is in a good location. The scenery seen every day is very good.
