My wife and I decided to visit Spain for 7 days and booked a 2-night stay at Hotel Atenea Port Barcelona Mataró through Trip.com. We flew from London to Barcelona on 04/05/2026 and landed around 21:35. After collecting our rental car at the airport, it took us nearly 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach the hotel, and we finally arrived around 23:10 local time.
Before unloading our luggage, I went to reception to confirm our booking and check in. The young lady at reception completed the check-in process, and we also paid the local tourist taxes, which is standard procedure.
However, our experience became disappointing when I asked about parking. The receptionist informed us that hotel parking was available for €15 per day, which was acceptable. I then asked whether it would be safe or acceptable to park in an off-site parking area nearby. Unfortunately, she seemed unsure and struggled to explain things clearly in English.
Considering this is a hotel located near the marina and receives international guests, I believe the hotel should ensure that reception staff can communicate confidently in at least one international language to better assist travellers.
Another thing we noticed was that whenever we asked for help or basic information, the first response was usually about additional charges or prices. This made the service feel less welcoming.
Overall, while the location may suit some visitors, we personally felt the hotel did not provide the level of customer service we expected. In our opinion, the hotel is overrated and not good value for money. We would not recommend it and would suggest looking at other hotel options in the area instead.
