We just checked in to Matsuyama Tokyu REI Hotel earlier today, marking it as our 10th hotel on this journey, and the location immediately won us over. The hotel sits right opposite Ōkaidō Shopping Street and Matsuyama Mitsukoshi, making it incredibly convenient for shopping, food, and daily necessities. Getting here was also effortless — it’s easily reachable from Matsuyama Station via the Iyotetsu tram, which is a big plus when traveling with luggage.
Another highlight is its proximity to sightseeing spots. The hotel is only about a 5-minute walk to the ropeway station that takes you up to Matsuyama Castle, making early starts or sunset visits super easy without any transport stress. With such a strategic location, everything we need is literally right outside the door.
We booked this hotel a few months in advance and scored a great deal of under JPY 15,000 for 2 nights, which feels like excellent value for the location alone. This is also our second Tokyu hotel on this trip, after staying at the one in Matsue. The room size is quite similar, though this Matsuyama property does feel a bit older and more dated in comparison.
That said, the room is still very functional and comfortable. There’s a small table with a chair, plus another chair at the TV console desk, and we had no trouble opening our luggage comfortably. The bed is wide and comfortable, making it easy to get a good night’s rest after a long day out. The bathroom is also fairly spacious, which is always appreciated when winding down after a full day of exploration.
Service-wise, it’s consistent with what we experienced at the Tokyu REI in Matsue — polite, efficient, and reliable. Overall, while the hotel may not feel brand new, its unbeatable location, comfortable space, and great value make it a solid and practical choice for staying in Matsuyama.
