We stayed at Lakaz for 5 nights in October 2025. It’s in a great location with incredible views over the mountains and the coast (best enjoyed from the sunset bar). The hotel is in Chamarel village so you have the panoramic restaurant, rum distillery, coloured sands, waterfalls and an adventure park all just in the local area, as well as the helicopter base for visiting the underwater waterfall. There are plenty more sights just a short drive away. The hotel itself is beautiful and peaceful. The grounds alone are gorgeous and very well kept, with a lake and beautiful flowers and birds, and the villas are spread out nicely throughout the grounds with each decorated in a nice Mauritian style. We stayed in a sea view villa with pool which was a real treat. The staff were polite and friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. Peggy the owner and manager really went above and beyond for her guests. The driver for one of our excursions was late to pick us up and she was straight on the phone to the tour company, sorting it out on our behalf, even though the tour was not associated with her or the hotel in any way. She just wanted us to have a perfect day and did everything she could to make it happen (and it did). She'd also ordered reliable, good value and trustworthy taxi's for us to use during our stay so that we could get around locally without worrying about anything. The food at the hotel was also really nice. I was a little worried in such a small hotel that options would be limited but needn’t have worried as the food was lovely and varied. We stayed full board which meant breakfast and dinner were included. We did also use their restaurant for lunch one day so that option is there for people if needed. Bookings aren't necessary, there will always be room for you. As we'd chosen a villa up by the sunset bar, it was quite a steep walk from the restaurant back to the villa (perfectly do-able though, less than 10 mins and i'm slow and easily distracted by birds and pretty gardens). However if you ever didn't fancy the walk, or were visiting when there was not such lovely weather, golf buggies were always available and no waiting around. We also took advantage of the complimentary mini bus to Le Morne and back, which we much appreciated. We definitely plan to return to Mauritius and we will for sure return to Lakaz. I don’t think there is anywhere else like it on the island and it’s really nice to have the contrast of some time in the national park as well as some time on the coast. Huge thanks to Peggy and the staff at Lakaz, we had a truly wonderful stay.
