AVOID M HOTEL MEDAN. Terrible experience and questionable deposit practices.
There are far better places to stay in Medan. Our experience at M Hotel was dreadful from start to finish.
Our room window was barely one metre from an extremely busy road, with traffic roaring past 24 hours a day. The glass was so thin it might as well have been open. Getting a decent night’s sleep was virtually impossible.
The bathroom drain was clogged with someone else’s hair, which tells you plenty about the cleaning standards.
But the real insult came at checkout. The hotel refused to return our Rp200,000 cash security deposit, claiming our bedsheet wasn’t clean.
Are you kidding me? We’d been sleeping on it for three days! Of course a bedsheet needs washing after three nights. That’s called running a hotel! There was absolutely nothing wrong with our sheets beyond normal use.
In my opinion, this was simply an excuse to keep our money. It felt like a complete scam and left a very unpleasant final impression.
My advice: Avoid this hotel, and whatever you do, think twice before handing over a cash security deposit. We certainly didn’t get ours back.
Medan has plenty of better hotels where guests can actually sleep, bathrooms are properly cleaned, and ordinary use of a bedsheet isn’t treated as an excuse to confiscate your money.
Never again.
