We stayed in Camellia. The room was quiet and comfortable, although the repurposed bathroom doors are inadequate. Staff, when you can find them, are friendly, and breakfast was good. However, we are seriously concerned about the state of the electrics, both in our room where the bedside light socket was broken and therefore dangerous, and similarly below the buffet table in the dining room where the socket was hanging off the wall. A dirty tablecloth didn’t help either. we have reported the issue with the electrics to the manager twice but have not had any response. We won’t be going back.

Just back from 3 night stay at this family run hotel. The room '' Holly'' was well furnished and spacious , with a jacuzi bath and garden view. Breakfasts and evening meals were very good -- home cooking at its best. My wife and I particularly enjoyed the outdoor terrace and hot tub. Andrew and his 2 daughters Frankie and Maddie were excellent hosts.. Thank you for a most enjoyable stay. Alan and Marie

Booked a one night stay via Wowcher at a great price with evening meal and breakfast for 2 included. We wanted to visit nearby Salburn by the Sea Sunday 19th July 2026 so this seemed a good value stay at £100. It is an early 1900s country house down a quiet lane near to Middlesbrough golf club good job we had a sat nav in our car. On arrival at 4.30pm we discovered there was no actual car park and you had to park as near to the main door as you could . Building looked very 1960s and run down. Door handle on main door was hanging off. Pressed a doorbell and a young lady came and gave us keys to our room on the first floor. Turns out we were the only guests staying there at this time. Room was a decent size with good size double bed which turned out to be very comfortable. A very small TV on the mirrored old world dressing table unit. Good selection of tea bags coffee and hot chocolate with 2 packs of shortbread biscuits. Windows were the 1960s sash type with a slide over glass panel to give a double glazing effect. On the outer window frames these were well rotten and in need of replacing. To the left corner of the room was a double door to a en-suite tiny bathroom with small shower unit toilet and a small basin all modern looking. No where to put your item such as soap and toothbrush though. Anyone who was a larger person would not fit into the shower cubicle. Sink plug allowed water to drain through within 30 seconds so had to keep the tap on when washing or trying to shave. Owners son was at the bar downstairs so we had a beer before eating only 2 draught lagers and Guiness on rest in bottles. Evening meal was quite nice chips in a bsket and pie had plenty of tender steak pieces. Large group of young children outside (day visitors) on an inflatable large bouncy thing parents with them. We went out and travelled to Whiby came back 10.10pm but hotel in darkness we couldn't open the main locked door seemed like a bolt had been put on. Rang the 2 mobile numbers on a notice in the door but no answer on either. So we were getting worried by now baning on another door just below and as we did a light came on in the kitchen . The owners son had luckily gone into it for something bare chested. He came round and let us in. What a relief that was. Had a good night as the bed was comfy. No USB socket in the room to charge up phones though. Breakfast was served by a charming man who thought was the owner but turns out he was the gardener called Steve. Lovely bloke looked after us at breakfast. So anyone thinkng of visiting please be aware that the building is still in the 1960s needing a fortune to do a full renovation.

Would like to say thank you to Andrew, his family and staff for a lovely stay , we were made to feel welcome as soon as we arrived and felt more like we were visiting family or friends rather than staying in a hotel. The evening meal was lovely and the breakfast choice was excellent as was the cooked breakfast. Should we away walking in this area again, we wouldn't hesitate to stay here .

Thank you to everyone at the country house who made my birthday party so fabulous on Saturday. This place is a little gem tucked away on the outskirts of nunthorpe in gorgeous rural surroundings. The house is stunning, a beautiful rambling old country house with so much character and relaxing vibe. The family snd staff here are friendly and welcoming and nothing was any trouble for them. They accommodated the extra people that turned up in addition to my initial numbers making sure that drinks flowed from an amazingly stocked bar and that there was more than enough home made finger buffet that was kept fresh and topped up throughout the evening. They pre dressed up the bar area for me with balloons and banners i dropped off. I know they have their own fab disco snd dj but a friend of mine wanted to do my party and this was fine with them. Everyone had a fabulous time and despite most guests being local there were many of them who didn’t know about this place. I cannot recommend a visit here highly enough. Perfect for summer afternoon/evening drinks on the huge patio area covered in twinkly lights overlooking the beautiful gardens and woods. It’s truly like stepping back in time to a place that treats you like a friend and provides hospitality and service that time has forgotten.

We had a really enjoyable time at the Brass Castle. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was delicious. We had the ‘steak night’ on the first night which was great value. Juicy fillet steaks and wine for less than £60 per couple. The hotel is in a great location so we visited Ormesby House, the towns of Yarm, Saltburn and Guisborough. We stayed in the room that had the spa bath and it was great. The room was warm as the weather was glorious but they supply a fan which really helped. It’s a really quaint hotel ran by a lovely family. The grounds are awesome. The snooker table was fun to try. One day we would love to return to this hotel. Thanks guys and all the best. You are in our prayers x
