A Really nice hotel with excellent Sports facilities and views . Delightful helpful staff . Nice food . Average accomodation . AREA / SURROUND : A lovely part of southern England with beautiful countryside , quaint villages and wide choice of pubs STAFF : Very obliging . Keen to help . All very pleasant & agreeable people . CLEANLINESS / MAID SERVICE Very clean and the staff who did my room were exceptionally good and lovely . SERVICE : This is good but if you are on the patio areas it is a little slow at times and sometimes you have to search for some staff for drinks orders etc... Also a little more alacrity in the dining area would be good FACILITIES : There are two grass tennis courts , Croquet lawn , Bowls green , Table Tennis Table , Snooker table , 6 hole golf course , outdoor pool , indoor pool & spa . THIS IS ALL QUITE SUPERB ! There is equipment available for all sports but it's rather old & tired . In fact , I cut my finger on a croquet mallet as it was split . For the sake of spending several hundred pounds the hotel could appropriately reflect the excellent amenities with worthy bats , racquets , clubs & balls . Also you need to provide bath robes up to 4XL , not stop at large ! FOOD ; Fine dining essentially . Very nice but typically small portions . Reasonable wine list but a little expensive . £14- glass of wine / £40- a bottle plus . The breakfast is a "curates egg" , as the hot cooked breakfast menu has a really good choice and is delicious . The buffet conversely is Poor . Just two juices available . How about some Tomato , Cranberry , Grapefruit , Pineapple ? just 2 fresh fruit available - Melon & Grapefruit . No apples , plums , pears , peaches individual fruits etc.. No cold meats or cheeses . No flavoured individual yoghurts etc... PARKING : Plentiful . Very good indeed . GROUNDS : Lovely . Well tended . Calming , Delightful . Nice ground staff ACCOMODATION ; This lets the hotel down a bit sadly . We were in the newer part of the hotel next to the spa which has about 8 rooms I think ? Although it's relatively quiet , its very warm and the room is poky . The modern bathroom takes up nearly half of it with a mirror in the eaves up to a height of 5 foot which means I cannot see to shave . The shower is very good though . It's fly / wasp season and you can't do much about that , but a fly trap and spray in each room would help , The furnishings are old and do not match at all . There is a ghastly uncomfortable plastic chair and glass table taking up most of the entrance hall . Dirty stained thick drapes . The bed is just awful . I got about 4 hours sleep a night . It's like a water bed and you sink in it without any back / body support . The TV is useful but way too small . Tiny wardrobe with insufficient hangers . The worst thing for me though was a lack of any fridge / mini bar . This is just absurd at £300- a night ! To have to call down for milk whenever you need it , is just ridiculous and when its
