Formal complaint against a staff by the name of Janka.
This is regarding my booking for a stay on 1-3 Nov 2024 for which I encountered a terrible service with discrimination.
I arrived in Milan on 1 Nov early in the morning. Having had a long red-eye flight with a long transit, I was hoping to check in early to freshen up. I called the hotel to enquire if we could do an early check in and a man picked up. He told me that the room is available (please check the phone records). Given this confirmation, we shelved our plans for sightseeing and lugged our luggages to the hotel.
Upon reaching the hotel, I explained to the receptionist, Janka, that I had called earlier and was told early check in was available. The receptionist immediately gave a very stern and black face and said that no rooms are available. As I further explained that this is unfair to me, she started raising her voice and repeated "you don't talk to me", which I understood to be that she wasn't the one who picked up my phonecall so it's not her problem. I pulled out my call log and redialled the number, wanting to speak with that guy again to clarify. The phone at her desk rang but she insisted that it wasn't her that we spoke with and too bad there's no room. She was glaring at me and was extremely rude throughout the engagement and her attitude felt discriminatory despite us being the guests. The least she could do was to show empathy and try to investigate who it was that confirmed over the phone, but no, she simply just denied responsibility and did not care.
I strongly urge Marriott to investigate this issue and look into the CCTV to prevent the hotel brand from being tarnished by poor service staff.
Eventually, my partner and I had to book another hotel as given the attitude given by the staff, we had concerns that our stays in the hotel could be sabotaged. This episode wasted at least 3 hours of our time, which is very precious given that we only had 2 days here.
We are also extremely unhappy that the hotel refused to give us a refund.
