I finally realized my long-held dream of staying here, having booked the room over half a year in advance. Its location is indeed quite remote, nestled deep in the mountains. Upon arrival, a car picked us up directly from the hot spring bus stop, and the elderly driver was incredibly warm and friendly! The heavy rain on the day of our visit truly enhanced the ambiance. The room itself was incredibly spacious. Surprisingly, even in June and with the rain, it got so cold at night that we needed to turn on the air conditioning. The cuisine was also quite sophisticated. Dinner was exquisite, though the portions were a bit on the small side, leaving me not quite full... The private six-foot outdoor bath was absolutely unforgettable – a definite must-book! If I had to nitpick, for a price tag exceeding 3000 (currency unspecified), I expected the service to be a touch more enthusiastic and friendly. I couldn't shake the feeling of being treated slightly differently (compared to what I observed for local Japanese guests and Westerners). Having stayed at no fewer than 10-20 hot spring ryokans in this price range, I'd say claims of 'superb service' are a bit of an overstatement. Overall, I'd give it an 80/100, and despite the minor points, I still highly recommend it!

The service was excellent, and the rooms are spacious. Each room features its own private 'Qieshi' hot spring bath. They provide a shuttle service to and from the Kyushu Odan Bus Station. Upon check-in, you can book a time slot for the private onsen. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious, with dinner even being served directly in our room, which added a very special touch.

This is a traditional Japanese ryokan, built with beautiful wooden architecture. It's located on the westernmost edge of Kurokawa Onsen town, about two kilometers from the main area. If you're looking for privacy and tranquility, this is the perfect spot. They offer a complimentary shuttle service; just let the front desk or the town's tourist information center know, and they'll arrange a pick-up. The ryokan boasts a great selection of onsen baths, both communal and private. The 'Roku-shaku Taru' (Six-Foot Barrel) is a standout among the private options; I highly recommend trying it in the morning for the fantastic views and fewer insects. Both breakfast and dinner were served in my preferred Japanese style. The dishes were diverse, beautifully presented, and utterly delicious. And the tatami sleeping arrangements were incredibly comfortable.

This is a very atmospheric hotel, nestled by a river in a dense forest. Our room overlooked a rushing river. The private wooden bath offered stunning views. They also have an indoor sulfur hot spring, which is a medicinal bath and quite unique. In the evening after dinner, while soaking in the public hot spring, we saw fireflies – it was a truly magical sight. We found the Japanese cuisine at this hotel featured quite a lot of raw meat (like raw beef and horse meat), which we weren't entirely accustomed to. Our room was incredibly spacious, and to our pleasant surprise, it even came with its own private bath, which exceeded our expectations.

The hotel environment truly blends with nature. The Japanese ambiance is fantastic, the service is very attentive, and the food is wonderfully authentic. Absolutely delightful! My only suggestion for improvement would be to update the bathroom facilities with more modern and practical options.

A traditional Japanese ryokan in Kurokawa Onsen. The onsen, breakfast, and dinner were all exceptional, and the service was outstanding. Nestled amidst a forest, the surroundings are truly beautiful. I would definitely return. Highly recommended!

A Truly Wonderful Stay We arrived at 5 PM and had booked the Roku Shaku Oke family private bath for 6 PM. The lighting before sunset was absolutely perfect for photos. After our bath, we headed straight to dinner in our yukata. Aside from the horse sashimi, which wasn't quite to my taste, all the other food was absolutely delicious! I enjoyed soaking in the Shiki-no-Yu (women's public bath) both before bed and early in the morning. I personally recommend the morning dip; it's less crowded, and seeing the clear springs and moss in the misty pool is incredibly relaxing! Finally, regarding the room. The layout was excellent, offering panoramic views of the entire valley. We even saw fireflies at night, which was a delightful surprise! Although our suite came with both an outdoor and indoor private bath, the water wasn't hot enough, so we mostly just used them for photos rather than actually soaking. Despite this, the overall experience was fantastic. The service, food preparation, and the public bath environment were all impeccable. I would definitely stay here again!

We booked the entry-level room, which meant there was no in-room shower; we had to use either the communal bathhouse or a private onsen for bathing. The toilet was positioned right by the room's entrance, easily visible from the corridor, which felt a bit awkward and lacked privacy. On the positive side, the six-foot private onsen was absolutely stunning, situated right beside a stream and waterfall. Dinner was decent but filling, and breakfast was quite generous and varied.

A hot spring hotel nestled in the mountains. The room was super spacious and even had an indoor hot spring. So relaxing to soak in the hot spring, listening to the creek and watching the stars.

Must visit onsen hotel. Personal POV : Best of the best for everything you can think of. Recommended to self drive and visit this place. Get to view lots of sakura during spring season.

The place was very comfortable and spotless, and the Japanese-style bath was incredibly relaxing.

Great atmosphere and service. Really love the homemade Yuzu sake and Moromi Tofu. Definitely will come again!

Excellent service starting from check-in, throughout the stay, and check-out. Food is traditional kaiseki and worth the culinary experience.
