Makini Bush Camp, Yala

I had the pleasure of staying at Makini and already cannot wait to go back. The camp is set up very well, it feels very safe, the rooms are cozy and have all the luxuries we don’t usually have when camping (a comfortable bed with mosquito nets, a proper private washroom en suite). The location is a bit remote, but very peaceful, so it provided a couple of nights of peaceful sleep. The team were wonderful throughout my stay and constantly made sure I was comfortable, safe and well-attended to, without being overwhelmed. Himasha, Amesh, and Kamesh made sure my stay at camp was wonderful, while chef Udayanga made the best food I had on my entire trip around the country! My dietary preferences were all met and everything exceeded my expectations! Finally, I was lucky to be able to go on three safaris with my wonderful, knowledgeable guide Sasinima, who kept me well-informed and safe, and we were driven by Madusha, who is not only an excellent, mindful driver, but also helped us spot some great wildlife! Both Sasinima and Madusha made sure I had the best opportunities to take the photos I had hoped for. We were lucky enough to spot a leopard in the distance, several elephants, and many birds! Finally, a huge thank you to Arun, who was knowledgeable, interesting and just as welcoming as the rest of the team. I have already recommended Makini Bush Camp to all of my adventurous friends, because it’s a truly unique experience.

We loved our 2- night stay here! Luxury glamping in the middle of the jungle in a well-equipped chalet complete with a/c and personal plunge pool. And just a short drive to Yala’s Katagamuwa gate! The staff is professional and friendly, going out of their way to ensure your stay is perfect. They took great care of us. And last but not least, every meal was delicious. If you are a nature lover, this is the place for you.

This is a truly amazing place, literally in the middle of the jungle! Tent rooms were well appointed, with a comfortable large bed, seating area and wet room. The plunge pool was a welcome extra after a day's safari. The wildlife was great, and you really felt amongst them especially as the monkeys seem to enjoy jumping on the tent roof! Arun and the team were extremely welcoming and attentive, with a very intimate dining experience including a candlelit BBQ evening. This is definitely one to visit when you go to Yala.

This resort intends to rip people on drinks. Beers are charged 15$, a bottle of wine will be charged at 60$. The staff is extreme friendly and go the extra mile! The tents are great in particular the available plunge pool! I would have rated this location a full score otherwise. It appears that other camps around Yala are applying the same approach. The only advise I can give is bring your own drinks!

Above and beyond expectations. Have traveled and stayed in other bush camps in other countries and this one ranks right up there at the top. Small plunge pool in the back for cooling off. The room was air conditioned and the bed comfortable. Everything was clean, tidy and well kept. More importantly, the staff was totally up to snuff and the food was excellent, the staff attentive to every need from pulling out your chair to be seated, the placing the napkin on your lap. Not inexpensive but worth every penny. The tours into Yala, the guides knew what they were looking for and we saw more than we had hoped for.

Makini-Bush Camp is a truly peaceful and magical place — the perfect destination for anyone looking for a unique and unforgettable experience in nature. The safari was absolutely extraordinary. We were lucky enough to see elephants and even leopards, and the information shared by our guide was extremely interesting and insightful. I also really appreciated the strong commitment to respecting the environment. The tent itself was very comfortable, well-designed, and fully equipped with air conditioning. There is even a small swimming pool on site, which feels incredibly luxurious for a tented camp experience. The food deserves special recognition — it was exceptional and truly among the best meals I had in Sri Lanka. Finally, the staff were extremely warm, welcoming, and attentive, making the whole stay feel personal and memorable. I highly recommend Makini-Bush Camp to anyone visiting Yala. An outstanding experience from start to finish.

We had a brilliant two night stay at Makini Bushcamp. The tents are comfortable, the team really welcoming and the food absolutely delicious. Arun our guide was just brilliant. We went out on two safari trips and were so lucky with what we saw - leopards, elephants and sloth bears amongst many other animals and birds. The whole experience was enhanced by Arun's insights and our drivers skill. The bush walk on our final morning was great and gave us a different perspective of the jungle.
