Our stay at Sao Lourenco was the absolute highlight of our honeymoon, what a dreamy place. We were thoroughly impressed by the quality of the accommodations, and the friendliness of the staff was truly world-class. It was wonderful to have the mountain bikes at our disposal and return to enjoy the afternoon tea time with delicious cakes. We cannot recommend the picnic option highly enough! The spa treated us to the best massages we've ever experienced, and the stargazing activity at the observatory is a MUST do and so romantic. The pottery class was super fun, and we hope to continue this new hobby. Breakfast was a delightful spread, with the best Eggs Benedict. The quality of both the food and service surpassed anything we experienced during our time in Portugal. While it was too cold to use the pools, the facilities were beautiful! Before departure, our breakfast server, Ines, went above and beyond to share a delightful list of her personal recommendations for exploring her hometown of Lisbon. Her exemplary 5-star hospitality left us with a lasting impression of genuine warmth and care. The same can be said for the rest of the staff from the front desk, gift shop, to the bar! We are looking forward to returning when we have little ones, as they appear to offer a great number of activities for families!

Looking for somewhere special to celebrate my milestone birthday, we booked into this beautiful boutique hotel in Alentejo. I was not disappointed. This is a very special hotel set in magnificent grounds. From arrival to departure we were made to feel like special guests. Cannot fault the attention to detail from the furnishings to the wonderful organic food, it is a magical place and will stay in our memory for a long time. We highly recommend a visit. You won’t be disappointed.

We had not been Sao Lourenço for 2 years and were very impressed with the work they have done since our last visit. The entire compound has been repainted, the grounds are very natural but beautifully cared for, the food is excellent and the staff are superb, both friendly and professional. One of the most beautiful and calming places to stay. Look forward to going back again soon.

What a magical place. From the moment you arrive until the moment you leave you are in a constant awe of the surroundings, nature, staff, food, activities and service provided. It is a rare jewel focusing in what the are has to offer both in terms of produce but human capital as well. The staff are there to make you feel like home and accommodate any need pf yours. There are tons of activities and a visit at the spa should be considered mandatory. Thank you Barrocal and thank you to everyone who helped us enjoy one of the best holidays of our lives.

Barrocal was a welcomed change from the hustle and bustle of Lisbon. Spent three nights in this rural setting and enjoyed the low key feel of the place. Food was farm to table and FABULOUS. Grounds spacious and our group hiked two days with a guide throughout the countryside. After a hot day of hiking, the pool was devine.

Please don’t read this review. This hotel is so wonderful that we don’t want you to go there so we can go back ourselves! There are many great hotels but this truly is one of the leading hotels of the world, even if they weren’t part of that association. The staff are wonderful and hand-picked. Most are local to the area, having joined the hotel when it opened in 2016. Some are formal hoteliers with experience in big five star hotel chains in Portugal and abroad. But all are passionate about the Sao Lourenco do Barrocal. Nearly all speak flawless English in addition to Portuguese. I imagine they speak other European languages, too. When you drive into the tree-lined estate, your stress level decreases immediately. We got out of our car to find Gil waiting to unload our belongings into a golf cart while we checked in. Lovely Carolina at reception checked us in and walked us to our room. Housekeeping comes morning and evening and leaves little treats for you. And unlike many hotels, when you open the mini bar it’s all free, included in your room rate. In advance of arrival we had booked our first night dinner. We had had a long day and it was nice to go right to dinner. The concierge is helpful before arrival and sends you a WhatsApp after checkin to offer things to do and check if you need anything. You can then use it whenever you have a question. Our room, a courtyard room with king bed, was very large with a large bathroom with double sinks, tub and separate shower. We ate dinner on two nights in the restaurant. In retrospect we should have booked a pool-side barbecue, but it wasn’t open on our third night, so we had a great dinner in the bar. The veal sandwich, with veal from the estate, was superb. There is a huge selection at breakfast, both from the buffet cooked to order. Great cappuccino, too. Stefan was an attentive server and made the cappuccino to order, easily able to accommodate a preference for almond milk. We had booked an olive oil tasting and it was far better and more interesting than we had expected. Martim, who led it for us, explained the history of the agriculture in the area since megalithic times thru the Roman era and up to the estate’s founding in 1820. We visited the olive press and then sampled three of the estate’s oils. We liked them so much that we shipped six bottles home. We didn’t do a wine tasting, but in three nights tried several wines either by the glass or one night by the bottle at dinner. All were good. They also make a good blonde ale, and the bar has a full selection of cocktails. In October many people sat outside with a drink to watch the sunset! In the morning, keep an eye out for hot air balloons above the vineyard. We saw them two of three mornings. This place was great for us in our 60s, but would be equally good for a truly romantic honeymoon, for families with small children, or early empty nesters. Guests here are from all over. There were couples from Portugal, E

During a recent trip to Portugal, we made an impromptu decision to check out this hotel as some friends had heard that it was very nice. Being a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, I decided to check on their web site but surprisingly it showed no vacancy so I tried browsing directly on the hotel's home page and it showed various categories of rooms available. We were a group of 4 and we needed two rooms. We could not make up our mind as to which category room to book out of the three types of options that was available for the two days stay. We decided to call the hotel up and inform them that we were in need of two rooms and that we would be driving down from Lisbon which would take approx 2 hours. They told us it was perfectly fine. We reached the hotel at around 2 pm and Mr. Rui (with whom we had spoken on the phone) arranged for us to see the 3 types of rooms and we opted the middle category. As we had not had lunch, we straight away went to their restaurant and were pleasantly surprised with the level of service and also the quality of freshness in the food. Since all four of us are vegetarians, we also asked the server if we could speak to the chef so that he could perhaps cook us some pasta and other things for the dinner that evening. Here again they were very accommodating and the chef had arranged very delicious and fresh food for dinner. The rooms are very rustic and yet very elegant. The bathroom sizes were very big and the room type we chose had a small terrace area at the back with table and seating. All through our stay, we all felt that the service level was excellent and everyone had a pleasant smile and amazing and warm attitude. The housekeeping ensured that the rooms were serviced properly and kept in great condition. We were also very happy with the variety of the spread at breakfast. The quality of the bakery items was top notch. Frankly speaking, at first, I was a little sceptical to stay at this property as it literally seems like its away from civilisation but we all were taken aback at the quality of service and also the variety of food and beverage options. The reception team assisted us with booking a hot air balloon ride and whenever we would contact them by WhatsApp, the response was very swift. My wife had accidentally dropped her eyeglasses in the balloon basket which the people at the hotel very kindly arranged to send to a local friend in Lisbon. I suppose there were only two minor let downs for us. On the second evening of our stay, we decided to try their outdoor barbecue dinner. While we were assured that there would be a fair bit of variety for vegetarians, it was somehow not very fulfilling. The other let down was that the hotel told me that I was not entitled to get any points for the stay since the booking was not done through the Leading Hotels of The World web site. I clarified to them that the web site was clearly showing us no vacancy so I could not make the booking through that site. They fi
