GGuest UserIn this fast-paced era, it is rare to find a corner where the soul can rest. I decided to take a private bath temporarily and searched for Zhaohua. From the moment I stepped into the store, I was deeply attracted by the unique temperament here. The design of the homestay cleverly combines traditional and modern elements, retaining the quaint charm of the old house while retaining a sense of fashion. The layout of the room is warm and elegant, the bedding is comfortable, and it feels like home. It was late at night when we checked in, and it was raining. The staff was warm, thoughtful and meticulous, and they did not show displeasure because we arrived late. Opening the window, listening to the dripping rain and watching a movie in bed is very healing! The private bath water temperature is suitable, the bathing pool is clean and has a faint smell of disinfectant. I have always attached importance to hygiene issues, which makes me feel at ease.

QQiutiandezitengluoLocated in the Ming and Qing Ancient City, it's about a 20-minute walk from the high-speed rail station to the ancient city. It's also very convenient to get to the Great Wall, which is right next to the high-speed rail station. There's also an S2 line, which is a bit like the intercity line in Guangdong. The room was clean, tidy, and comfortable. There's plenty of food in the ancient city, and there's also plenty of food on the pedestrian street at the foot of the Great Wall. It can be a bit chilly at Badaling in the evening. I climbed the open sections of the Great Wall on both the north and south sides, which is about 30,000 steps. The northern section is really steep. The next day, my legs felt like they weren't mine anymore. I guess they'll be sore for a few days, just like after climbing Mount Tai.

AAnonymous UserI booked the place after seeing good reviews from XHS and on this site. We were met with not the lady boss on day of arrival but a grouchy man with curt instructions. And no assistance was given to help us carry our luggage to the 3rd floor. Lucky, it was a single luggage. So both my sis and I were able to do it on our own. The room itself is clean but very basic with no place to hang our clothes though hangars are provided. As we were only staying for one night, it was ok. Towels are provided with shower gel and shampoo. The hotel location is good/central as it is near the Sun Moon Plaza. Did not get to see the drone show as there were thunderstorms that night. We were glad when we met the lady boss the next morning. Very warm and friendly personality. She also helped us with arranging our luggage pickup by the service centre. Breakfast was mainly Asian with also bread, porridge and the small dishes cooked on order by the lady boss were tasty. The homemade soya milk was great too. Overall, i think the hotels in Gubei Watertown are overpriced with such basic room amenities. I paid nearly the same rate for a 5star hotel in Beijing with much bigger room with better room facilities/service. Suggest to go for day trip if possible. But if you want to go for overnight stay and climb Simatai the next day, suggest to stay inside the scenic area so you pay half the price and enjoy flexibility to move within the scenic area anytime.

GGuest User## A Fantastic Stay at Gubei Zhiguang Resort Hotel My recent stay at Gubei Zhiguang Resort Hotel far exceeded my expectations; the entire experience was incredibly comfortable and relaxing from start to finish. The hotel boasts an excellent location, just a 5-minute walk directly to the central recreational area of the Water Town, saving a lot of travel time. With an abundance of restaurants, small eateries, and convenience stores nearby, it's incredibly convenient whether you're visiting for leisure or have temporary business. During check-in, the front desk staff were exceptionally warm and welcoming. The process was efficient, and we completed everything quickly without much waiting. They thoughtfully informed us that breakfast is served from 7 AM to 10 AM and that the gym is on the 3rd floor. This attention to detail truly made us feel cared for. The room itself was an even bigger pleasant surprise. It was spotlessly clean, and the sheets and duvet covers felt dry, soft, and completely odor-free. The bathroom featured a convenient wet/dry separation, with distinct vanity and shower areas. The toiletries provided were of good quality, not cheap, and very pleasant to use. What impressed us most was the excellent soundproofing; once the door was closed, it felt like the outside world was completely shut out. We enjoyed a quiet night and had a truly restful sleep. Breakfast also did not disappoint. There were several rows abundantly stocked with hot dishes, various porridges, staple foods, fresh fruits, and freshly ground coffee. The food had a delightful, homely taste, ensuring that everyone, from seniors to children, could find something enjoyable. We will definitely choose this hotel again on our next visit to Gubei Water Town and highly recommend it to friends planning a trip here!

AAnonymous UserStayed for 2 nights in Oct 2024, planned for 1 night to visit around the town itself and another night for the Simatai Great Wall. 1. Location - Inn is located within Gubei Watertown and it is necessary to go through the watertown to visit the Simatai Great Wall. By booking an accommodation within the town gives you discounted entrance price into the town and since we planned to visit the great wall and explore the town itself we have decided to stay for 2 nights (also partly the cost and time to travel there from Beijing). Inn is located near the main square where some performances are held and near a shuttle service stop (free shuttle services within town if you’re staying in an accommodation within town. Overall a good location within town. 2. Room - Booked a family room for 4 (2 single beds in each level). Room is mostly made of wood hence its not really a modern feel and its not really sound-proof which the staff has notified in advance. Room is spacious and bathroom is big. Stairs that goes up to the 2nd level is stable but can be a little steep for seniors. Overall the room is decent. It comes with tomatoes, peanuts and tea as welcome gift. 3. Luggage - There’s a luggage service whereby you can arrange for your luggage to be transported to your hotel from entrance, and from hotel back to entrance. This is definitely needed as the ground in the watertown is not a smooth surface and can be hard to carry your luggages around. 4. Services & breakfast - Staff’s services is really good and efficient! Breakfast is simple but has good variety. There’s the buffet portion which consists of small dishes for porridge, bread, bun, drinks etc. And there’s an alacarte portion where you need to order in advance the night before such as bacon, egg, sausages, noodles etc. i think its a good initiative to avoid wastage. Overall a very good stay and would recommend if you are visiting Gubei Watertown and would like to stay in a more traditional feel.

HHannah Lauren Bond- The location is excellent. It is just round the corner from Gubei Water Town. A two minute walk to the entrance hall. - The service was good. The staff added us on WeChat and were very quick to respond to messages and queries. One stand out moment for us was when our food was 2 hours late from a local restaurant. I was struggling to communicate with the restaurant because my Chinese is not very good. Staff reached out on our behalf and sorted the issue for us. - Cleanliness was OK. The sheets on the bed felt lovely and clean, but the apartment was not spotless. The shower had some black mould, and the floor in the kitchen felt sticky. - The apartment itself had some pros. My son absolutely loved all the toys and the slides. It made his experience very enjoyable. - Plenty of towels, toiletries provided. However - The shower leaked constantly. Every time we used the shower the bathroom would become flooded - which was a slipping hazard for my son. - The curtains are very thin. Every morning we were woken up to a bright light streaming through the windows. This meant that my son’s sleep was not great. We did contact the staff about this. They used sellotape to stick up some bedsheets on the windows, but this fell down within minutes! We appreciate the efforts though. - We would have felt better if there was a stair gate. As this is an apartment aimed at families, a stair gate would be good for safety. - Limited cutlery is provided. We were given some disposable chopsticks. However very few cooking utensils / no children’s cutlery. Bring your own if you want to cook. :) - There was only once choice of breakfast - which was not to our personal taste. Would be good if 2 or three options were provided. There is a lovely bakery around the corner and we enjoyed buying our breakfast from there for the remainder of the trip.

GGuest UserThe only downside was that there were many small insects on the bed. Since it’s a hotel deep in the mountains, I suppose it can’t be helped, but there were so many that it took some effort to get rid of them. Other than that, the room was spacious, clean, and the service was excellent. Breakfast was more substantial than I had imagined and very satisfying. I also had dinner at the hotel’s restaurant, and it was delicious. It was a great deal to have both the scenic area admission ticket and the hot spring pool ticket included with the stay.

MMaverick MakStayed 2 nights at the Commune by the Great Wall, an Unbound Collection by Hyatt. The resort is spread over a big acres of land within the Shuiguan area, also a short proximity to the renowned Badaling Great Wall. You have to reach there by car or by DiDi as there is no public transport to reach the Commune. This is a resort for those who wish to spend quality time, to seek refuge and to relax. The resort was designed by 12 individual renowned architects, each reflecting their own taste and styles, clearly demonstrated in the Communal Home you are staying. Each Communal Home consists of 5-6 rooms where you share common spaces such as Living, Dining, Kitchen and Courtyard with other fellow travellers. You will still have your own room and private bathroom similar to any other hotels or resorts. With the Communal Home, you can access these public area / communal area where often it is under utilised which is great for us. The room is immaculately adorned with the furniture styles of the Communal Home you have selected. There is Cantilever House (Red House), Terrace House, Suitcase House, Bamboo Wall, Forest House etc. My Bamboo Wall room is a little small in my opinion. The bedding is on a Tatami Platform. Bathroom is too big and it takes up too much space for the bedroom. There are limited spaces for the suitcase as we travel from afar. There is also no hook for clothing in the bathroom, no hook for the hand towel which is quite strange given that it is quite luxurious. We bought the package which includes daily breakfast for 2 with Shuiguan Great Wall Ticket and a High Tea. There is an outdoor swimming pool within the hotel and a gym. The pool is only open for 3 months during the summer months, not sure why the restrictions even though it is not a heated pool. During my visit, day time was hot and the air temperature was around 26-28 degrees. Though the water temperature may be way cooler, but if the pool is opened, we will probably take a dip. The breakfast is either a la carte or buffet depending on the hotel's occupancy rate. We had lunch and dinner at the hotel as well and the food is very good though it is on the pricey side. To move around the resort, you will either walk (depending on the location of your accommodation), it can be far away from the restaurant or the reception. You can call them for a car pick up. The driver 小宋 is a great asset to the property, so as our Housekeeper 小李(李鸿建), he was very attentive and observatory. He saw we have many medicine and supplements in the room and he gave us extra water and left us a note. Great initiative! In short, it is a very memorable stay and a very good hideaway.

TtorinessThis is a good budget option if you want to stay overnight near Gubei Watertown - but there are serious limitations. It was very confusing and quite stressful when we first arrived at the location provided - we couldn’t find the address given, but a local lady was very helpful and called the owners/managers for us and then a driver came to collect us. The address given is a meeting point, not the location of where you are actually staying. It was as we were driven to the 2 apartments (not rooms in an individual villa) that I realised we were not staying in or right at the Watertown as I thought we were. It was a 5-10 minute drive away. To be clear the managers were very friendly and always available on WeChat and the driver took us to and from the Watertown whenever we liked so that was fine - but it means you have to pay entry every time you enter the Watertown - which is expensive - so just take that cost into account. There also didn’t seem to be anywhere to eat at the apartment complex either but perhaps we couldn’t find it (it was a huge complex) so I recommend you eat before you go or take (especially breakfast) food with you. I booked two rooms with a view. One room had a GREAT view of the Great wall (photo included) and the other looked at nondescript trees and grass the other direction. Mainly I went on this special trip with my older parents to Gubei so it was disappointing that we weren’t really staying together in a villa - we were in a giant apartment building on separate floors.

GGuest UserThe first time I came to Mutianyu Great Wall, I looked for hotels around it on Ctrip. The pictures of this hotel were quite attractive and the price was not expensive, so I booked it. I was shocked when I entered the gate. The environment was very good. I entered the room. It was amazing. Two big beds were so comfortable for three people. The yard was as beautiful as the pictures. The key is that there were animals. This was the first time I saw them. There were also slides and trampolines for children to play. There was also a swimming pool but it was not filled with water. The big platform was also amazing, with small bridges and flowing water. Although the breakfast was not a buffet, it was also very rich. We ordered lunch separately. We had two meals of three dishes for less than 200 yuan. It was super cost-effective. The taste was also good, but it was a little salty (personal feeling). The front desk lady and other staff were very warm and simple. Opposite the hotel, there was a coffee restaurant, etc. The environment was also great. This is the first choice for coming to Mutianyu Great Wall!
