I spent three days at Mamlouk Pyramids Hotel in Cairo and overall had a very positive experience. In my opinion, this is one of the best hotel options in the area around the Pyramids of Giza. Its location is simply unbeatable: the Pyramids are no more than a 5-minute walk from the hotel.
What I particularly liked
The location and views.
The main advantage of this hotel is undoubtedly its location. If your main goal is to visit the Pyramids, it is hard to find a more convenient place to stay. You can simply walk from the hotel to the Pyramids in just a few minutes.
The view from the hotel’s restaurant is absolutely stunning. You can enjoy your breakfast or dinner while looking directly at the Pyramids, which makes the dining experience particularly special. Some of the hotel’s rooms also offer panoramic views of the Pyramids, so I would definitely recommend checking the available room categories when booking if the view is important to you.
The food.
The second major advantage of the hotel is the excellent food. We booked a half-board option, which included two meals a day — breakfast and dinner — and both were very good.
Breakfast is served as a buffet, with a good selection of food. Dinner is served à la carte, meaning that you can choose any of the available dishes at no additional charge. This was a particularly pleasant surprise, as the food was genuinely tasty and the à la carte format made dinner feel much more enjoyable than a standard hotel buffet.
One thing to keep in mind is that only water is included with dinner. Other drinks are available for an additional charge.
Housekeeping.
The room was cleaned thoroughly every day, and we had no complaints about housekeeping during our stay.
The pool.
The hotel also has its own outdoor swimming pool, which is a nice bonus, especially if you want to take a break from sightseeing and relax at the hotel.
The staff.
The staff were generally friendly and welcoming. Most of the employees were helpful and polite, which contributed to a pleasant overall experience.
Things to keep in mind
Check your room category carefully upon arrival.
This is the main issue we encountered during our stay.
We had specifically booked a Superior Double Room with Panoramic Pyramid View and Balcony, but upon arrival we were initially given a lower-category room. What was particularly disappointing was that the reception staff initially tried to convince us that this was the room category we had booked.
We had to spend some time discussing the issue with the receptionist and explaining that the room did not correspond to our reservation. After we insisted and showed that the room category was different, the hotel eventually moved us to the correct room later that same evening.
So, I would strongly recommend checking the room category and the view immediately upon check-in. If the room does not match what you booked, contact reception right away and make sure the issue is resolved.
