Sawrey House

Sawrey House Hotel is situated in a quiet little village and has the most spectacular views over the valley, Esthwaite Water and the hills beyond. I could look at it all day. We booked 4 nights DB&B early in the year after a bereavement and have looked forward to it all year. We were not disappointed. The staff were welcoming, cheery and helpful. The room was clean, with complimentary toiletries and refreshments. We loved the king sized 4-poster bed. The place has a peaceful, homely feel and we feel so blessed to have been able to stay. Would thoroughly recommend.

Fantastic Afternoon cream tea. The sandwiches were excellent using beautiful French bread and plenty of fillings. Cakes were delicious and lovely scones. Host was so helpful and pleasant. Setting is beautiful and the garden is well tended. Well worth a visit.

Stayed for four nights & had a wonderful time. The hospitality of the owner David is first class, nothing is too much trouble. We had a large room with four poster bed overlooking the lake, on the first floor. What a breath of fresh air to get up in the morning to, then downstairs to a very generous breakfast beautifully presented. This is our second stay at this hotel and yes we will be back. It is close to Windermere but far enough away to enjoy the serenity of Near Sawrey as Windermere is very busy & commercialised sadly. I would add our room was cleaned every day to a high spec with lovely fluffy white towels replenished daily. We were delighted to have a large walk in shower with complimentary toiletries. Well done David you run a fine establishment.

We were staying at a rental house 2 minutes from the hotel so booked the restaurant, 9, people 6 adults 3 children. Lovely relaxing a**osphere and prices the same as local pubs, however quality, presentation exceeded. Small menu, no children’s menu however tried to accommodate with half portions where possible. Lovely waitress who looked after us. We wished we had booked 2 nights for dinner… we will be back!

Just returned from a long weekend break at Sawrey House Hotel, what a great weekend we had. Very lovely and very helpful staff, very comfy four poster king bed lovely room with stunning views, which was made even better with the jacuzzi bath. All the meals were exceptional including breakfast. We will definitely be returning to this hotel and recommend it to everybody. Thank you.

Another excellent stay. Sawrey House is a beautiful hotel in a lovely garden setting with wonderful views of Esthwaite Water and the hills beyond which can be enjoyed with a drink on the terrace. Ideal location for exploring the South Lakes and beyond. Great staff and a very tasty breakfast to start the day. Already booked to return.

Lovely long weekend. David excellent host. We were advised the week before that breakfast available but not dinner. We decided to carry on (with obviously lower price than originally quoted) as we were able to use lounge day and night and bar early evening. There is a nice country pub 100 yards away with excellent food and another similar one about 1 mile away. Fifteen minute walk to cafe on the lake. Beatrix Potter's house 100 yards from hotel. Bus stop also for Hawkshead. Fantastic break........

4 rating because the room we stayed in was beautiful, Esthwaite room, four poster bed, spa bath, beautiful view. Staff are courteous. The hotel is beautiful and the grounds in which it stands are stunning. The hotel is away from the hustle and bustle of main villages, towns etc, which made our stay worse because of situations stated..., We were told upon arrival, Good Friday , that they didn’t have a chef for the weekend so no evening meals were available (at an extra cost to us) . We weren’t notified of this before arrival ( it would’ve been courteous to have been informed) and we then found it quite difficult to find places to eat an evening meal nearby at short notice, given it being Easter weekend. After returning to the hotel from an early Saturday evening meal elsewhere , we wanted to have a couple of drinks before retiring to our room, yet at 7.30pm the bar was closed ! It’s just gone 10pm on Easter Sunday we’re in our room and have been since 8pm, the bar again closed! When you stay in a place that is supposed to have the amenities to use , and not at a cheap rate I might add , but you can’t use them , I find it quite appalling. Would we stay again, I doubt it.

Beautiful setting and lovely hotel with wonderful hosts who provided the most gorgeous meals. Our room was large and clean and the bed was comfortable. Particularly loved the view from the window whilst in the jacuzzi bath. The only fault we could find was the only radiator was hidden by a sofa which probably meant the room didn't get as warm as it might have been but it didn't really affect our stay. We'd definitely recommend the hotel for a short stay in the beautiful Lake District. Breakfast and evening meals were stunning. Thanks
