Mercure Nelspruit Hotel
"Reception staff were inattentive and focused solely on answering phones. The rooms were dark, outdated, and in poor condition: a broken bedside lamp, gray bathroom towels, only one bedside table, repulsive carpeting, a malfunctioning lock requiring repair, etc. etc. A terrible stay after 8 days in the bush. Certainly not up to the standard of traditional Mercure hotels!"
The Capital Mbombela
"I love The Capital. The reception is always welcoming. The hotel is right next to mall so very convenient. Food is fabulous. The decor , lighting and atmosphere is well done in main areas and rooms. I love the fact that there are balconies and doors/windows that can open to fresh air! "
Protea Hotel Nelspruit
"We appreciated the hardwood floors in the room and the overall cleanliness. There is currently construction going on behind the hotel, which we were worried would be noisy, but our room was quiet despite being on a main street. There was one carafe of still drinking water provided on a complimentary basis, and two carafes of still water in the public lobby area near the front desk, but no other water stations elsewhere in the hotel for refilling water bottles. The king-sized bed in our room was a bit hard for our taste, and while we had specifically requested foam pillows due to allergies to feathers, our room had two down/feather pillows and two foam ones. The room had a small frig, safe, desk, and kettle. Unfortunately there is no lift in the hotel, which is something to be aware of for anyone with mobility issues, although the hotel is only two floors high. There is also an outdoor pool. Prices are about average. We would stay again."
Sheppard Boutique Hotel
"This place should not be missed. Anton and Natasha are the hosts and they couldn’t have done more for us. We were ther for 3 nights and made the mistake of going out one night for dinner, it was definitively worse than the two we had cooked by Anton! The position is spectacular."
Loerie's Call Guesthouse
"Stayed in room 6 which was excellent bar for the 50mm step up into the ablution facility. Luckily only stubbed the sole of my foot but could have broken a toe.Was very careful entering after that."
Beetleloop Guest House
"Great experience with very friendly hosts. The Tree Top Chalet offers a peaceful environment and nature experience. Thank you."
La Roca Guest House
"Even before my stay, everyone was very helpful...and once there, the welcome was warm and the whole experience excellent all round!"

"We were delayed on the road from Mozambick but after we arrived girl at reception was stil friendly and took me for a lookarround of the place."
Jörn's Gästehaus
"We enjoyed the privacy of our room. The area where the guest house is located is tranquil, with a beautiful garden and the guesthouse's lovely staff. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and did their best to accommodate every request."

Sheba Rock Guesthouse
"I loved the place, very clean 👌 receptionist very friendly I loved her. She even gave me a gift which was sunglasses she said she was given by her granddaughter. She made by day. "
Francolin Lodge
"The staff at this hotel were incredibly welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. The rooms were immaculate and very comfortable. We also enjoyed the delicious breakfast with a view in morning and loved the convenient location."
StayEasy Mbombela
"I have seen an arrogance in a person like a saw with Simphiwe at front desk today. I simply asked for breakfast/lunch form, the guy just threw a pen on the desk infront of me. His job must be the most important job in Mbombela. This type of behavior needs diversity and inclusion program. Otherwise the place is clean and other staff members are great."
Christie's guesthouse
"I never book at Guesthouses but my stay at this Boutique Guesthouse met my expectations and more. From the food to the accommodation."
Acacia Guest House
"This was a very disappointing stay on a recent visit to SA. I got bad vibes from the start when we arrived at the location in a suburban neighborhood where the compound was surrounded by high walls with barbwire. The (owner?) staff seemed stunned and unprepared by the arrival of our 13-person party. The check-in process was extremely slow as they struggled to assign names to room. There was no explanation or orientation about the place/grounds/amenities, etc. They keys were old-school with comically large plastic tags attached that were impossible to fit in a pocket without removing the tag. The rooms themselves were adequate and appeared clean, but many problems existed throughout our parties' rooms including: heat not working, leaking plumbing, one room with no curtain or blind which required the use of a blanket to cover the window, TV screens smaller than a laptop, burned out light bulbs; in one case 3/4 bulbs not working in the bathroom. Meals were of decent quality, but again the staff seemed disoriented by our party and struggled to keep up. WiFi was ok but the host was confused about how to access it. Some people asked if there was laundry service available, which, to be fair, was not a service offered. They tried to accommodate the request anyway, but one family in our party found that there laundry had been returned to there room WET and then the wet laundry was laid on the bed, which of course soaked the bedding! Another family's laundry was apparently taken to a laundromat and they were charged a huge amount. Honestly the lodge should have just said no laundry service available. On our second night, the staff prepared a traditional African Braai. While the food was decent, members of our party reported seeing the man working the grill while smoking a cigarette with a very long ash hanging from his mouth directly over the grill. My nephew ordered a beer and when he received it, he quickly opened it and took a sip. Then he realized the beer tasted flat and there was no fizz. He checked the bottle carefully and noticed it was only about 2/3 full despite him having taken only a small slip. We asked about leaving the premises to explore and were told it was unsafe and that we should not leave the compound. I personally asked the host about the lack of heat in my room. She accompanied me to my room and tried the remote control herself, then told me, "some of the heat doesn't work. I'll have "him" (presumably the staff maintenance guy/barbecuer/cook) look at it". "He" never did! Despite being fairly cold weather with no heat available, windows were left open by the cleaning staff. In at least one case the window mechanism was broken and the window couldn't be closed all the way. The only way I could get warm after returning to my chilly room was to take a hot shower, though there was a sign in the bathroom requesting no long showers be taken. One of our party noticed the pipe in the ceiling above their shower was leaking through the c"
Harmony Guesthouse
"I stayed a total of 3 nights at Harmony Guesthouse, 1 night before my overnight Kruger camping safari, then 2 more nights after the safari. The location of the guesthouse is in a quiet neighborhood away from the busy center. It is gated so the place is more secure. The property has a nice swimming pool, though I didn’t get to use it since it was still winter time, plus I was busy with tours all day. As for the room, it is very spacious, bright, and clean, & the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was modern & clean, and the hot water shower was fantastic. They serve English breakfast for an additional fee, but it is worth it as the portions were big & it was very good. The guesthouse does have a generator, which helped a lot, since the power went out, due to South Africa’s load-shedding schedules, a few times during my stay. Only downside for me was that since I didn’t have a car, I couldn’t walk around the area or to the city center to buy what I needed since I was advised that it’s not safe. My flight into Nelspruit arrived late in the afternoon so I arrived late to the guesthouse. I was then hoping to walk around to get dinner; luckily, I had some snacks with me that sufficed. But for those with a car, there is parking at the guesthouse for convenience."
Leonardos Guesthouse
"The hotel is located in a safe area and well protected. It is clean and in a good condition. The price is reasonable. The room was provided with toiletries, fridge and air conditioner. We had everything we needed. The hotel manager always checked if we were ok or needed anything which was nice. We felt like we are at home. You can request transfer from the airport for additional charge if needed."
Vineyard on the Hill
"This is such a lovely guest house. The reception was warm and friendly. We enjoyed the clean and comfortable room with a large bed. All the amenities we needed were there. I will highlight recommend this guest house to anybody traveling to Mbombela for work or for a sleep over on their way to the Kruger."
Global Village Guest House
"VERY Neat, clean and food was excellent. A bit noisy at times. Service was always friendly. Overall no complaints. "
LoerieRoep Estate - Mountainview Selfcatering Accommodation Nelspruit
"It’s an amazing place. No need to repeat all the positive things that have been said in the other comments. I also cannot understand the negative comments regarding the place at all. I had a lovely time there will and definitely come back. However, there is always a bit room for improvement. Looking after guests is not a real strength of the hosts. Me as a German recognised immediately that owners are Germans and not South Africans. Nobody follows up with you if everything is ok, if something missing or not good, or advice is needed. BTW the dogs are lovely; impressive animals but very friendly."
