Freehand New York

It’s a great place for dogs. However, it is not the cleanest place I’ve ever stayed in. The rooms were somewhat outdated, and there was a lot of dust on the windowsills that had never been cleaned. The carpets are also stained. They did not charge us for the dogs, which was very nice and the price was reasonable. They have no ice machines on the property or offer you no cups.

I'm very conflicted about this hotel. The location was great and credit where credit is due, it was clean. However, a few things brought what could have been a better score down. One, the rooms are extremely old. The first room they gave me smelled old and the window wouldn't open. The receptionist on call at the time was extremely dismissive and told me to wait until the morning to change it, forcing me to sleep in a smelly room despite the hotel not being fully booked (he had said previously there were a few room options available). In fact, other than Hero and Bruno, everyone else I encountered ranged from dismissive to rude. Bruno saved my trip by switching me to a nicer room and doing it with a smile. The overall old vibes of the room would have been okay if the price was cheaper, but I stayed in cheaper hotels in New York that had more modern furniture, overall more pleasant decorations. The window blinds were falling apart. I don't think it's a horrible place to stay but it definitely needs several improvements and an overall better staff.

The only positives were location and the friendliness of the staff. Could hardly move around in the room as it was so small. The bathroom was almost not usable. Shower curtain didn’t cover the opening of the shower so water went everywhere and you couldn’t wash your face over the sink as it was too small and placed under a sink.

Very handy location for heading either uptown or downtown. Room was very comfortable for an older hotel and staff were helpful.

Good location! Comfortable hotel with helpful staff m. Would recommend to others if travelling to NyX!
