I knew this was a historical building prior to the trip. I was thinking quaint b&b but after seeing the property, I realized that was not an accurate description. The best part of this property was it was very inexpensive compared to others in the area and it is in a very great location.
I booked the Melville house and upon arriving our room was not ready because we arrived early, which was fine and we were certainly willing to wait. However the lady at the front desk offered another room and explained to us that the room we booked did not have a television and that the bathroom was extremely small. The room we were offered was in a building next-door. I am thankful we were offered another room because the Melville house was extremely old and had a bad smell on the inside. However, the other room was also in a building that was pretty rundown on the inside. Additionally, the room we were given also did not have a television and had a very small bathroom as well. I figured that a TV was a standard amenity in a hotel room and not something I would need to check a listing to make sure would be available. Also, there is a skylight above the bed in the room we were given so if you have any intention of sleeping late, it’s definitely going to ruin that plan for you. Overall, it was just not the type of experience that I would expect from any hotel. No ice machine, no places to charge your electronics, and just overall very old and not functional.
